Description

What factors influence the study? FACTORIAL Research; a research design that uses more than one independent variable 1.

The factorial survey is a method for studying the impact of factors as perceived by decision makers. It can provide information on the decision policies of groups of people, e.g. the factors regarded as important by one staff group as opposed to another.

Rossi's factorial survey method, proposed by sociologist Peter Rossi, is a technique that uses vignettes to explore individuals' beliefs and judgments. The method begins with a particular view of human nature. In this view, humans seek to know the causes of things, and they judge (evaluate)... A factorial research design can be one of the three types: Between Subjects Factorial Research Design: A research design in which all independent variables are between subjects. , participants are exposed only to one level of each independent variable. Within Subjects Factorial Research Design: A research design in which all independent variables are within subjects. participants are exposed to all levels of each independent variable. Mixed Subjects Factorial Research Design: A research design in which not all of the independent variables are of the same type (i.e., one independent variable is between subjects and the other within subjects) both between and within subjects variables are used. Gender is an example of a subject variable which is always a between subjects variable (Crawford, 2019, p. 211). WITHIN SUBJECTS FACTORIAL DESIGNS all participants are exposed to all levels of the independent variables of interest. MIXED SUBJECTS FACTORIAL DESIGNS the independent variables are not all of the same type. In other words, some variables are between subjects and others are within subjects. Main Effect: Determining if an independent variable has had an effect on the dependent variables while ignoring or collapsing across the other independent variables in the factorial research design. When you are looking for a main effect of A, you need to ignore B (in this case, gender). Put another way, you will look at A while collapsing across B.

Interaction: Occurs when the effect of one independent variable depends on another independent variable. -_____________________________________ CHAPTER 12

Single Case Designs

Single Case Design: A design focusing on a single participant, single group of participants, or a small group of participants. Psychologists use SCD a lot in early research. three most common types of methodologies used in single case design research: (a) AB or pretest–posttest designs, (b) ABA or reversal designs, and (c) multiple baseline designs. AB Design; Part A, initial test, Part B, Post Test and hopefully tests were higher after education. Measure, something happens, then measure again and note the difference. The Treatment (what happened in the course experience) is the Independent Variable. Does that really demonstrate an IMPROVEMENT in Psychology Knowledge?? Can we be sure that the Treatment was the only thing that influenced Post Test Score outcomes? Other relative factors can be considered “confounding factors”. single case designs are most likely to occur in three specific situations. The first situation is in clinical research where a patient with a specific disorder is the focus of interest. Second, single case designs are preferred when investigating unique or specialized populations where large numbers either (a) do not exist or (b) access is limited. • in group or team research. Single case designs can have high internal validity. • Single case designs avoid problems with obtaining control groups.

Single Case Studies designs face the same limitations that we discussed in an earlier chapter. These include carryover, order, and practice effects. In addition, with single case designs, a researcher has to be very aware of fatigue or over evaluation/ assessment influencing the participant....
