The source History of the American People described Indians as barbaric and savages until European settlers introduced civilization into the New World. b. The source The American Pageant describes Indians as heathens and that the Spanish believe that Christianity was the superior religion and took it as their job to convert the Indians to Christianity. c. The source A People and a Nation identified that Powhatan’s brother recognized the danger of the English colonists’ exemption and attempt to convert natives to Christianity. He then launched coordinated attacks along the James river. 2. Is there evidence of cultural exchange between Indians and Europeans? a. No, the source A People and a Nation shared how Indians and Europeans exchanged culture such as Christianity and crow growing. 3. Does the text discuss the Indian population at the time of European discovery of the new world? a. Yes, the population of the Teotihuacan was pointed out on page 15. It says that perhaps 100,000 people were housed in the urban area in the fifth century.

4. What role do the Indians play in the settlement of Jamestown? a. Pocahontas helped save the colony by enlisting the aid of the Indians and to preserve the peace during 1608. 5. Are individual Indians mentioned? If so, how are they portrayed? a. Pocahontas was mentioned and portrayed as a peacekeeper. Powhatan was portrayed as a negotiator and created an alliance with the Englishmen. As well as Powhatans brother, Opechancanough, was portrayed as a war leader which killed one-quarter of the colonists in Jamestown. 6. Paragraph on Foner chapter 1 a. Eric Foner described the Indigenous people in great detail. He described how the

Indian societies shared common religion characteristics and gender roles were different in most Indian societies than in Europe. One major thing that Foner did in his book that I really liked was talk about the different revolts and wars each Indian tribe fought in, as well as, described how each country thought and dealt with the Indians. Overall, Foner discussed each tribe in detail and included almost all aspects of their lives and how they interacted with each country....
