1. What are the positive and negative effects of specialization? A positive effect of specialization is you have many employees to handle a large job so it. A second effect is the employee has one specific task that he or she could learn quickly. Forth, an employee repeating the same task doesn’t loose time changing operations and the last positive effect of specialization is the more specialized the task is the easier it is to make or design a product. As for negative effects of specialization, employees can feel bored as they are doing the same job repeatedly.

2. What are the four most common bases for departmentalization? Give an example of each. The four most common bases for departmentalization are by function, by product, by location and by customer. Departmentalization by function is when groups of different jobs relate to the same organizational activity. For example, when you departmentalize by function you group all the marketing employees together in the same marketing department. By product is when you group activities related to a specific good. An example of departmentalize by product is each department of the product has their own marketing, production, financial management and human resources activities. Departmentalization by location are groups of activities according to the specific geographic area. An example of this would be ford motors has divisions for the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa, the departments are spread out into different locations. When you departmentalize by customer you group activates by the needs of different customer populations. An example of departmentalize by customer would be if you designed an aircraft for one specific government customer and another one for corporate customers because their needs might be different. 3. Identify and describe the three steps in the delegation process. The delegation process involves three steps. The first step is when the manager assigns responsibility which means a manager gives an employee is task and they must do it. The second step is authority which means the power, within an organization to finish an assigned task or job. The last and third step is called accountability, this means that the employee is accountable to do the job or task well assigned by the manager.

4. Differentiate decentralized organization and centralized organization.

There is a pattern of delegation through an organization and it depends if it is decentralized or centralized. A decentralized organization means that management attempts to spread authority throughout different levels of the organization. A centralized organization works to concentrate authority towards upper management.

5. Describe the four forms of organizational structure. Give an example of each. There are four forms of organizational structures. The first one is called, the line structure. The line structure is when the chain of command goes directly from one person to the next throughout the organization. An example of a line structure is when a straight line is drawn through the levels of management from the chief executive down to the lowest level in the company. The second structure is called the line and staff structure. The line and staff structure only uses the chain of command from a lone structure but also uses line managers called staff managers. An example of this would be would be the line managers have line authority which means they can make decisions and staff managers have advisory authority to the line managers. The third structure is called the matrix structure. The matrix structure is an organizational structure that has vertical and horizontal lines of authority. For example, the matrix structure authority flows both down and across and employees report to more than one supervisor. The last organizational structure is called the network structure. The network structure, is when administration is the primary function performed. This type of structure has a few permanent employees that are top management and they involved a lot of team working together rather than relying on one central leader....
