Write a 5-sentence summary of the main events of this chapter. Nick is worried something was about to happen Gatsby was unable to sleep. Choose 2 meaningful quotes (include page numbers) from this chapter and explain why each one is important. Quote 1: “…He went to her house, at first with other officers from Camp Taylor, then alone. It amazed him—he had never been in such a beautiful house before. But what gave it an air of breathless intensity was that Daisy lived there—… It excited him too that many men had already loved Daisy—it increased her value in his eyes.” (158-159)

Importance: The quote is important for two reasons. It shows that Gatsby had fallen in love with both Daisy and her wealthy life, so much that he could not tell if it is Daisy or the love of her affluent lifestyle he truly loved. It also shows how Gatsby thinks of Daisy. He loves her because men admired her. The more they did, the more he loved her.

Quote 2: “"They’re [referring to Tom, Daisy and Jordan] a rotten crowd," I shouted across the lawn. "You’re [referring to Gatsby] worth the whole damn bunch put together." I've always been glad I said that. It was the only compliment I ever gave him, because I disapproved of him from beginning to end.” (164)

Importance: Here we see that Nick never agreed with the way Gatsby went along in achieving his dreams. Although Nick had help, he never condoned it. He compliments even though he disapproves of him because he is still better than Tom, Daisy and Jordan put together....
