Official’s Hand Signals Objectives: a) Read and understand the hand signals given by the referees during the actual game b) Practice the hand signals for used during the actual volleyball game c) Demonstrate the hand signals used by referee

In volleyball, there are generally 2 officials the first referee directs the game from a set and a second referee stands opposite near the net. A whistle is blown to initiate and to end each play. AUTHORISATION TO SERVE Move the hand to indicate direction of service

TEAM TO SERVE Extend th e arm to the side of team that will serve

CHANGE OF COURT Raise the forearms front and back and twist them around the body.

TME -OUT SUBTITUTION

Place the palm of one hand over the fingers of the other, held verti cally (forming a T) and then indicate the requesting team.

END OF SET

Circular motion of the forearms around each other.

Cross the forearms in front of the chest, hands open

MISCONDUCT Show a yellow card for warning Show a red card for penal ty

DISQUALIFICATION

NET TOUCHED BY PLAYER Indicate the relevant side of the net with the corresponding hand

EXPULSION

Show red and yellow cards separately for disqualification

Show both card jointly foe expulsion

REACHING BEYOND THE NET

Place a hand beyond the net, palm facing downwards
