I believe the main message this newsletter is trying to convey is that middle years is a time for transition. It is important that through that transition there is communication about priorities, expectations, responsibility, family, and support.

I think this newsletter successfully conveyed this message by touching base on different things tween and parents might experience. It covered homework help, earning privileges, family bonding, and friendships.

I think an assumption is that people tend to give themselves big goals to work and if they don’t follow through, they feel like a failure and might give up. It is better to make small goals to reach the end goal. I believe the main message in this newsletter is SMART goals. People shouldn’t fixate on big unrealistic goals and instead focus and celebrate small realistic goals.

I think this newsletter successfully conveyed this message by showing a table of lofty or vague goals compared to small goals. For example, in the newsletter they used as a vague goal “I will eat heathier” which is general. Instead a small goal “I will pour a glass of milk instead of a soft drink with dinner” which can benefit a person on their road to making lifestyle changes. I will also suggest a topic on handling conflict since they may not agree with people or may find themselves in a bullying situation. An idea from the newsletter that I will consider adding to mine is letting the tweens add input on how to be more physically active independently and as a family.

say if a person never used to take walks after dinner before and made a goal to do it 3 times a week but only did it 2 times, it is still more than what they did before and should still feel proud of themselves.
