Kameron Cross Prof. Majsak ENG 102 2/7/19-2/25/19 Chronicle Of A Death Foretold CHAPTER 1 Annotations ● One week before his death, a man named Santiago Nasar dreamed he was in a tinfoil airplane which flies through almond trees. ● Santiago did not sleep well. He ended up getting carved up like a pig. ● On that day, the bishops were planning to arrive, otherwise, he would have been wearing a khaki outfit. ● A trait Santiago picked up from his father was that he slept with an unloaded weapon hidden in a pillow case. ● Santiago’s mother said “Any dream about birds means good health.” His mother accurately interprets dreams of other people. However, she did not focus well on the tree scenario. ● Santiago Nasar was 21 years old, slim, pale, with Arab eyelids, and curly hair. ● Santiago died on a Monday. ● Santiago stopped attending school to take over the family ranch after his father died. ● The last time Santiago was seen by his mother was on a Monday. She suggested he takes an umbrella with him while it was raining, and he waved goodbye. ● Victoria Guzman’s daughter Divina Flor served Santiago coffee. ● Victoria fed dogs with the insides of defenseless rabbits. She fed dogs the guts

● A two story warehouse was bought at a cheap price by Ibrahim Nasar (whom Victoria made love to in secret), who turned it into a house. ● Divina Flor wanted Santiago dead, but never warned him because he allegedly grabbed her. ● Santiago’s death was planned. Santiago never saw the message slid under the door. ● 6pm was when Santiago left home. Pedro and Pablo Vicaro (twins) pitied him, but they were wanting to kill him. ● Santiago was invited for breakfast, but never arrived. He was already dead.

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold CHAPTER 2 Annotations ● Bayardo San Roman appeared before the wedding, 30 years old. ● Bayardo enjoyed festivities, and drank a lot. He was known to be honest and kind. He earned communion in days it was not permitted. It was in Latin. However, he seemed depressed. ● Bayardo believed he would marry Angela Vicaro (Pablo and Pedro’s sister). They saw each other during a charity sale while Angela yells out raffle numbers. Bayardo decided he would be frugal, and Angela viewed Bayardo as “stuck up”. Bayardo won a music box. ● Bayardo knew when Angela’s birthday was. ● Angela’s father Poncio became blind after hard work to keep the honor of the house. ● Angela Vicaro was viewed as the prettiest and the youngest of her siblings. She seemed poor.

● Bayardo’s will to marry Angela was depicted as an outsider’s scheming. Angela did not want to marry Bayardo. ● Bayardo was playing a game of dominoes with a widower named Xius. Xius had the nicest farmhouse in town, and Bayardo wanted to buy it. Xius made sacrifices and he refused to sell the house. He cried when Bayardo decided he wanted to buy it for $10,000. Xius passed away two months after selling the house to Bayardo. ● Angela barely had the will to live. She was convinced that women had lost their virginity in childhood accidents. ● Bayardo wanted to hold off the wedding. ● Pedro went into military service, Pablo learned the slaughter’s trade. ● Santiago loved parties, said he does not want flowers at his funeral. ● The protagonist proposed to Mercedes Barcha when she completed primary school.

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold CHAPTER 3 Annotations ● Pedro admitted he and Pablo killed Santiago, and believed they were innocent. ● They used that as a way to use funds to fix the door of Placida Linero’s house. ● Placida Linero’s house was always barred in the interior. Santiago went through the back door of that house. ● Pedro and Pablo were waiting for Santiago for over an hour. ● The Vicario twins (Pedro and Pablo) had a 25x10in knife for quartering and a 1.5x7in knife for trimming. ● 22 customers at a meat market eavesdropped what the twins said. Faustino Santos,

butcher friend, thought the twins were drunk. All the twins wanted to do was sharpen their knives. ● They arrived at 4:10, admitted the plan. ● Pablo and Pedro’s knives were taken away by Colonel Lazaro. Then they had a strong rusty 13x12in blade. They were sketched by the investigator ● Pablo was only 6 minutes older than Pedro. ● Santiago was good at disguises and confusing identities of mulatto women. ● After Santiago’s death, she thought Father Amador did not get her message about losing her last hope.

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold CHAPTER 4 Annotations ● Cristo Beyoda, former medical student was uncomfortable with the autopsy of Santiago Nasar. ● Since there was no freezer which happened to be the size of a human, Santiago’s body was lying in the living room while a coffin is being built. ● The awful smell attracted the dogs That was until they got locked up. Placida Linero wanted the dogs to be killed because she was under the impression that they were trying to eat Santiago’s guts. ● Father Amador was ordered by Colonel Aponte to perform the autopsy. There are 7 fatal wounds, there were two deep cuts in his liver, and it was discovered that Santiago swallowed a piece of gold when he was four years old. It was also discovered that he was deeply stabbed in his right hand.

● Santiago had hepatitis when he was 12 years old. ● Tuesday, the smell of Santiago has not gone away. ● Pedro and Pablo were locked up by the mayor. They struggled with using the bathroom. ● Pedro thought the autopsy was a trick for Turkish people. ● Colonel Aponte discovered that Pablo had diarrhea and Pedro was drowsy. ● Pablo and Pedro were supposed to be transferred, their father Poncio passed away. Pablo was married and Pedro was re-enlisted in the armed forces.
