1. One reason that other engineering students need to learn the fundamentals of electrical engineering is so that they can better communicate with electrical engineers when they are working with them in the work force. Another reason is so that the person can have a general understanding so they don’t make silly mistakes that could be prevented by having said basic understanding. 2. An interesting application of electrical engineering in the field of mechanical engineering doesn’t stem that far from the University of Kentucky. The Solar Car project is rather popular within the College of Engineering. The team develops a solar car that is used to race teams from other schools using only solar power. It is an interesting combination of electrical and mechanical engineering. The physical parts of the car that actually aid in propelling the car work in tandem with the electrical components. When the panels collect the solar energy, it is converted into energy that moves the car. This is also another reason that it is important for non-electrical majors could benefit from having a working knowledge of electrical engineering and its limits. Having this knowledge allows both majors to effectively communicate ideas and concepts. 3. It is important to know some of the history of the topic you are studying for a few reasons. One is that knowing the history of something can help in seeing where it is the particular topic is heading. Also, knowing the history can show you past mistakes and problems within the topic that can be avoided.
