Student Desks

Rationale When walking into my classroom, there is a shelf for students to place their folders and turn in homework, important notes, and classwork. They sit at their desk and hang their book sacks on the back of them. Desks are arranged in groups of two to encourage collaborative learning with partners. An interactive SmartBoard is located at the front of the class and used for whole group instruction to engage in interactive games

and present lessons. Centers are strategically placed around the room to offer flow from one center to another. Teacher or co-teacher/aide will conduct small group during center time for the students with special learning needs. The adult has a peripheral view of the whole class working in groups while doing small groups. Students are divided into color coded groups that support their learning needs and take turns in groups each day. By the end of the school week, each group has visited each center once. The reading center offers students the chance to independently read grade level books as well as listen to the same books on headphones. The art center is a creative space to develop art centered around the weekly lesson. This center also is the designated spot to get needed supplies for classroom success. The games and puzzles center offers educational games and challenging puzzles to aid in students’ learning goals. The final center is the technology table where students have independent, structured, and responsible time on laptops and tablets. Each student is assigned a personal laptop that they only have access to during their designated center time or whole group collaboration time. There is a charging station that the students are required to plug their laptops up when completed with centers or class tasks. The procedures and flow of the classroom offers effective group collaboration and a safe and cooperative learning experience for all members of the classroom setting....
