Description

1 Juan Camilo Quintana Aguirre BIT-200 02/27/2021 Tracey Lauterburn Cloud Computing for Competitive Advantage Coca-Cola is the world's largest beverage company, with the biggest variety of soft drink brands sold in more than 150 different countries. There is an average of daily consumption of 1.9 billion Coca-Cola beverages around the world such as Coca-Cola (including Diet and Zero), Fanta, Sprite, Dasani, Powerade, Scheweppes, Minute Maid, and other brands. This, of course, implies that it produces mountains from production and distribution to sales and customer feedback, the company has a strong data-driven strategy in place to make strategic decisions. In fact, Coca Cola was one of the first brands outside the IT market to talk about Big Data, when in 2012 the manager of the Big Data office, Esat Sezer, stated “Social networks, mobile applications, cloud computing and e-commerce are combined to provide companies like Coca Cola with an unprecedented set of tools to change the way IT is used. Behind all this, Big Data provides the intelligence to capture everything”. Recently, Greg Chambers, global director of digital innovation, said “AI is the foundation for everything we do. We create smart experiences. AI is the heart that gives power to this experience”. Coca Cola is known for dedicating a lot of resources to research and development in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure that they are taking advantage of every bit of information in the data they collect.

2 As a result of this research, the launch of Cherry Sprite as a new flavor was declared at the beginning of the year, based on data collected from older decades of self-service devices that allowed users to make their own mixes. Coca-Cola is also looking to follow the example of the tech giants by creating a "virtual assistant," or an AI bot similar to Alexa or Siri. Users will be able to order their favorite mix from any vending machine thanks to AI, which will be added to vending machines. AI will also assist vending machines in adapting to their surroundings.
