CNET301 - Network Design and Test Fall 2019 Lab 3: 3 Cisco Routers & 2 Cisco Switches - Amendment to Lab 2 Lab experiments/assignments account for 20% weight towards your final grade evaluation. In class lab participation is mandatory in the labs ... no in-class participation on the day of the assignment will result to 0 marks for that lab assignment. Input your answers in red text. For the network diagram, use PowerPoint or Visio and add it to the document. Save the document with your name and submit it into the appropriate dropbox in ecentennial. ALL lab assignments are due at the end of each lab class unless otherwise stated.

Lab 3 Assignment – Amendment to Lab 2 Design Task The Director of IT has recommended that all DHCP services be managed from the Ottawa Headquarters server farm. This server farm is on subnet 172.31.1.0 255.255.255.0 and the DHCP server IP address is 172.31.1.10. The Director has also asked that we add a DNS service with ip address of 172.31.1.11 into the DHCP configuration and define the duration of the DHCP lease to 2 minutes. Currently B1 Montreal and B2 Toronto provide DHCP services for their local LAN PC/workstations and are been assigned by B1_Router and B2_Router, their local routers. The transition from the current design/configuration to the new configuration must be seamlessly with minimal downtime. You have been asked to prepare and document a plan for the Director of IT. The plan must include the following: -
confirmation that the current design is working what configuration commands will be needed and or removed a step by step approach to ensure minimal downtime up-date your IP Addressing and VLAN table up-date your Network Design topology diagram what is your back-up plan confirmation that the new design is working
Once approved, please proceed with your implementation plan. Our Director of IT has recommended the following steps: -
connect and configure the current design and ensure that all PC/workstations can ping the internet and each PC/workstation can ping each other document each PC/workstation the ‘ipconfig /all’ from the cmd command prompt capture all the router and switch configuration files so that they can be analyzed determine what configuration requirements will be needed to achieve the Director of IT recommendation o e.g.: loopback interface on HQ_Router to simulate the HQ server farm Recommended loopback #, loopback 10

o Cisco’s DHCP Relay Agent on B1_Router and B2_Router will be required As part of the testing o Prepare a continuous ping test from one of the PC/workstation to the internet from each branch o Prepare a continuous ping test from one of the PC/workstation to the DHCP server at HQ from each branch Prepare and implement a configuration file or pre-configuring the HQ_Router with the DHCP service(s) and associated configuration needed to assign the appropriate IP addressing to branch 1 and branch 2 PC/workstations as per your IP Addressing and VLAN Table In addition, prepare and implement a configuration file at your set time to remove the existing DHCP configurations from Montreal B1_Router and Toronto B2_Router
Once all the new design configurations have been completed, perform an ipconfig release and renew to all the PC/workstations at both branches and record these new results. Reconfirm that all PC/workstations have received the appropriate IP addressing as per the IP Addressing and VLAN Table. Re-confirm all ping testing and ensure that they are all successful pings. Lab 3 Questions: 1. What is the Cisco DHCP relay agent command used for this lab assignment? _________________________________________________________________ 2. What are the eight UDP services does this command forward? List the names and port numbers. 3. After you have completed the amendment; record and take screen shots of the following show commands from the Ottawa HQ_Router and add these to this document: show ip dhcp binding
show ip dhcp server statistics
show ip dhcp pool
