COMPANY PROFILE 1. Business environment SWOT ANALYSIS SWOT Analysis is a process used by companies to identifies their strengths and weaknesses, and to examine the opportunities and threats that can be met. A SWOT Analysis is usually presented as a square divided in four smaller squares that stands for the four element I mentioned before. SWOT Analysis should be short and simple and overall realistic. Analysing the four element I can say that Strenghts and Weaknesses derive from internal factors: •

Strengths describe what an organisation excel at for example a company could have a strong

Weaknesses are what stop the performance of the company such as an high level of debt

brand influence, loyalty customers and so on

On the other hand, Opportunities and Threats derive from external factors and they refer to favourable or harmful aspects. An opportunity could be the reducing of tariffs and a risk is the increasing of competition.

SWOT Analysis of Guess Guess is one of the leading companies in the apparel industry. It is an American brand for both men and women.

PEST ANALYSIS Similar to SWOT Analysis is the PEST Analysis that identifies other external factors that could influence the company or are important to reach the goals. PEST stands for Political, Economic, Social and Technological. •

Political aspects focus on areas where the governance decision affect the economy of the

Economic aspects are related to the real estimates and dates of the economic condition of the area, for instance the economic growth, demand and inflation and so on.

well as the trends and changes of the technology

MISSION AND VISION A Mission Statement defines the company’s business, its objectives and its approach to reach those objectives. A Vision Statement describes the desired future position of the company.

VISION

MISSION

WHICH are the goals of the company

HOW the company could reach the goals

WHERE it wants to be in the future

WHAT should it does to arrive there and what are we doing

Vision talks about the future

Mission talks about the present

It inspires you to give your best

It defines the key measures to be successful

Example of PEPSI CO. VISION Leaving a positiv imprint on society and the environment (“Performance with Purpose”) starting from what we produce and how we make our products. MISSION Provide customers around the world affordable and delicious foods and beverages in order to reach a solid market share and sustainable growth.

LEADERSHIP Leadership has nothing to do with seniority or one’s position in the hierarchy of a company. Too many talk about a company’s leadership referring to the senior most executives in the organization. Leadership doesn’t automatically happen when you reach a certain pay grade. Leadership isn’t management. Managers need to plan, measure, monitor, coordinate, solve and so many other things. Typically, managers manage things, instead leaders lead people.

Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximise the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal. The most important thing of this definition is that leader must influence not only have authority and power. A leader is a very charismatic person, someone that never give up and is confident in every situation. A leader must be able to delegate tasks, to take the right decision and he has to be proactive and give the right example. According to a graph that we analysed in class, the first skill a leader should have is motivation. A leader must be able to motivate others to work to reach the goals. He has to be honest and collaborative.

How to be a successful leader Being a great leader isn’t easy. An effective, well-respected leader he has to:

1. Lead by example If punctuality is a priority, make sure you arrive on time. Your team will follow your lead.

2. Communicate effectively A successful leader knows how to provide direction and make sure they are heard.

3. Identify a mentor A good mentor will provide you with feedback and advice. It’s important to find a mentor who is ahead of you professionally, and can be objective in their counsel.

4. Never stop learning A great leader recognizes the importance of ongoing education or taking advantage of learning opportunities in order to improve themselves.

Sun Tzu and Niccolò Machiavelli’s lessons on leadership Sun Tzu and Niccolò Machiavelli were the masters of leadership. According to their thoughts a leader born with this characteristic, they grow into their role and remain dedicated to their mission, regardless the personal situation (family, social life, relationship and so on). The famous Machiavelli’s phrase is “is better to be feared than loved”. In his opinion mixing personal relationship with leadership is a fatal mistake. I think that to be a great leader, the leader must know how to establish himself as a leader but must at the same time maintain an almost friendly relationship with his group. An effective leader has to choose affordable goals so that the group will not demoralise, the leader has to know how to boost morale and to lead the group in the right way. Other popular phrase of Machiavelli is “the end justify the means”. This is not true in my opinion because if the company to decrease costs use child labor or damage the environment it’s unfair and illegal.

2. Corporate Social Responsibility Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders. Ways to practice CSR: •

Environmental efforts: company have a large carbon footprint and in order to save the environment they could reduce this impact using different and more biological energies.

Philanthropy: company could donate money or product or service for social causes

Ethical labor practices: by treating employees fairly and ethically. This means that employees works for not more that 8 hours with a legal wage.

Volunteering: by doing good deeds without expecting anything in return, companies are able to express their concern for specific issues and support for certain organisation.

Whistleblower A whistleblower is a person, who could be an employee of a company, or a government agency, disclosing information to the public or some higher authority about any wrongdoing, which could be in the form of fraud, corruption, exc.
