CONTINUING RESOLUTION Define + give examples Due 3/7/2019 PSC 101 A continuing resolution is a short term legislation passed by Congress to temporarily budget federal agencies to continue the operation of the federal government until regular appropriations have been enacted. If congress fails to pass a new budget before the new fiscal year (end: October 1) begins, they can pass a continuing resolution in order to temporarily fund federal agencies. If the government does not pass a continuing resolution, the government goes into a shutdown. The most recent example of a continuing resolution is the three-week resolution following the government shutdown under the Trump administration that began on December 22nd and lasted for 35 days, the longest in American history, surpassing the record the Clinton Administration held for the longest government shutdown during 1995-96 lasting 21 days. By stating a three-week Continuing Resolution from mid-January through February 15, 2019, furloughed federal workers received missed paychecks, national parks reopened, and with the government reopened lawmakers and congresspeople can pass legislation to fund the government fully....
