Bunny Blitz Open the simulation at http://bit.ly/2Z6SU1N. Select the “Lab” option.

READ through this guide which will explain what all the controls do. Take a few minutes to explore the simulation. Learn what the different controls do. The button can be used to reset the simulation to its original settings. Mission 1 Change the conditions so that you end up with a population of entirely brown rabbits. 1. Once you have accomplished this mission, write directions explaining how to do it. You must mark the brown fur as a dominant trait so that when the rabbits mate most of them come out brown. Then you must pick the wolf option to get rid of any white rabbits because since they don’t match up with the environment the wolves will see them first. 2. What advantage did rabbits with brown fur have over the white rabbits? The rabbits with the brown fur can blend in with the environment more than the white rabbits can which means they are more prone to survive in an equator habitat. Mission 2 Change the conditions so that you end up with a population of entirely brown rabbits with long teeth. 3. Once you have accomplished this mission, write directions explaining how to do it. In order to end up with a population of entirely brown rabbits with long teeth you must do the same steps as creating all brown rabbits however instead of adding just wolves as a limiting factor you must add tough food as well this is because rabbits with long teeth are able to eat tough food. 4. What advantage did the rabbits with long teeth have over the rabbits with normal teeth? The rabbits with long teeth was able to eat tough food while the others werent. Mission 3 Change the conditions so that you end up with a population of entirely floppy-eared rabbits. 5. Once you have accomplished this mission, write directions explaining how to do it. First you must mark the floppy ears, brown fur, and short teeth as dominant. Then you will start off with just the wolves and since the white rabbits are recessive along with big ears then they will be eaten first. Then that leaves you with the brown big ears, for this you just alternate tough food and limited food to get rid of them. 6. What advantage did the rabbits with floppy ears have over the rabbits with floppy ears?

Name:__Nya Quirindongo_________________________ The rabbits with floppy ears had a better chance of surviving because they camouflage with their environment more. Discussion Questions 7. What examples of variation were present in the simulation? What was the cause of this variation? The chance of having any rabbit having a trait or dying 8. What examples of inheritance were present in the simulation? Brown bunnies will most likely produce brown bunnies 9. What examples of unequal survival/reproductive success were present in the simulation? The bunnies with long teeth can eat tough food. 10. What examples of adaptation were present in the simulation? Long teeth became a uniformed trait when it became essential to survive 11. Are all mutations beneficial? Provide evidence from the simulation to support your answer. Nope, floppy ears are the equivalent of a pug nose. It’s not better, it’s just cuter so humans made them all look like that with no regard as to whether or not it’s healthy, in pugs, they can’t breath their whole life, rabbits just have very slightly worse hearing....
