1 PHI-105 November 02, 2019 Critical Thinking "Critical thinking is the process of actively seeking to understand, analyze, and evaluate the importance or significance of information"(Joyce, 2018) When we use critical thinking, it allows us to look at something with a different perspective, from a nonbiased point of view. This helps individuals to gather information and process it at a higher level and gives them the ability to consider other points of view to make the right decision or come up with a conclusion to what they are processing. Critical thinking can be beneficial to students in all areas of their lives, even beyond their educational path. It aids in problem solving and rational thought processing by leaving emotions out of the equation. Critical thinking can be improved upon with practice. There can be some obstacles that can get in the way of the proper use of critical thinking skills such as making assumptions rather than gathering facts. This makes the thought bias or based on emotional rather than evidence that supports the thought. Another interference would be jumping to conclusions where an individual doesn't put any thought into a situation before making a final decision or conclusion. Critical thinking would break it down and analyze the facts supporting the information before forming a final decision. Critical thinking is a very important skill to have and can be better developed over time with practice and effort. One’s ability to see, analyze, come up with and transform information, makes critical thinking vital to our learning abilities. Critical thinking is part of our ability to effectively communicate and problem solve, and we use it sometimes without even being aware of it. (Elder, L.2007). Critical Thinking skills are important for education and being able to think outside the

2 box to correctly complete essay assignments and more. Also enhances perception and ability to see the whole picture instead of just bits and pieces of it.
