Google,!an!American!multinational!technology!company!who!is!commonly!known!for!its! unique!(diverse)!corporate!culture!in!supporting!excellence!in!innovation.!Since!the!culture!is! shaped!by!the!purpose!of!the!organization!(basically!its!mission!and!vision),!Google!aspires!to! provide!access!to!the!world’s!information!in!one!click,!while!its!mission!is!to!organize!the! world’s!information!and!make!it!universally!accessible!and!useful.!Thus,!Google!has!a!goal!and! objective!they!want!to!achieve.!As!for!the!organizational!structure,!Google!benefits!from!having! a!flat!structure!which!helps!in!collaborative!teamwork.!Hence,!employees!feel!a!sense!of! openness!through!such!a!structure!where!they!are!free!to!discuss!their!ideas!and!opinions,!not! to!mention!the!firm’s!organizational!culture!preserves!a!“small5company5family!feel”!as!the! employees!describe,!where!they!can!easily!talk!and!bring!in!innovative!ideas!to!the!firm,!which! is!one!of!Google’s!conditions!when!employing!workers.!And!such!qualities!are!present!at! Googolplex!(campus!and!headquarters)!where!cooking!classes!or!coffee!tasting!enhances!team! skills.!Google!under!the!influence!of!Larry!Page!(CEO)!went!through!a!different!phase,!they!now! focus!on!fewer!projects!instead!of!producing!more!than!50!products!which!weren’t!well! maintained,!as!Page!describes!such!a!change!as!“More!wood!behind!fewer!arrows”!Since! Google!operates!in!the!technological!industry!it’s!adaptive!and!flexible!to!change!due!to!the! frequent!consumer!changes!(tastes).!Google’s!informal!slogan!is!“Don’t!be!evil”,!a!slogan! created!by!Paul!Buchheit!(the!creator!of!Gmail),!who!had!a!goal!which!was!to!place!a!product!or! something!into!the!market!and!becomes!difficult!to!remove!it,!and!many!of!its!policies!and! decisions!taken!by!the!management!are!based!on!such!a!motto.!Even!though!Google!regards!to! money!as!their!final!concern,!employees!report!feeling!motivated!and!satisfied!when!operating! at!Google!(compared!to!its!competitors).!According!to!a!New!York!Times!article!in!2005,!Google! employees!stated!that!they!felt!a!sense!of!responsibility!and!being!personally!invested!in!the! company’s!future!success.!Google!fears!of!having!a!dissatisfied!workforce!or!a!high!turnover! rate,!and!since!the!competition!with!rivals!is!frequently!increasing,!Google!wants!to!retain!its! employees!to!save!money!and!time.!Thus,!Google!considers!their!employees!to!be!valuable!and! a!significant!asset!to!the!business,!therefore,!they!want!to!have!a!satisfied!and!motivated! workforce!that!results!in!a!culture!of!productive!who!can!assist!Google!to!achieving!their!goals! and!objectives.!For!managers!at!Google!they!encourage!employees!to!think!outside!the!box,! and!by!doing!this!they!can!achieve!one!of!Google’s!condition!which!is!to!be!innovative!and! independent!thinker.!Adding!to!that,!managers!at!Google!believe!that!grades!and!GPA!are! meaningless!as!a!criterion!for!hiring,!since!they!don’t!predict!anything.!As!Laszlo!Bock!

(President!of!People!operations!at!Google)!states!“We!want!to!understand!what!works!here! rather!than!what!worked!at!any!other!organization.”!! ! Walt!Disney!Company,!mostly!known!as!Disney!is!an!American!diversified!multinational! mass!media!and!entertainment!conglomerate!(a!company!that!owns!many!companies! operating!in!mass!media!enterprises!such!as!television,!motion!pictures!and!theme!parks).!The! Walt!Disney!Company!claims!that!their!employees!believe!in!the!culture!of!the!brand!as!it! states!“Our!people!are!one!of!our!greatest!brand!assets!and!each!of!us!has!a!vital!role!in! nurturing!the!Disney!brand.!The!people!who!work!at!Disney!believe!in!the!core!purpose!of!the! Disney!brand!which!is!to!provide!the!world!with!special!entertainment!with!a!heart.”!Since! culture!is!shaped!by!the!purpose!and!direction!the!business!takes,!Walt!Disney’s!mission! statement!states!“is!to!be!one!of!the!world's!leading!producers!and!providers!of!entertainment! and!information.”!Basically!their!purpose!is!to!offer!their!guests!an!extraordinary!experience.!To! ensure!that!all!employees!have!the!same!values,!Disney!university!and!casting!center!reinforce! their!employees’!core!values!and!principles!of!innovation,!storytelling…etc.!Some!principles!are! essential!in!Disney’s!corporate!culture,!such!as!the!innovation!principle,!where!employees! should!be!regularly!creating!and!improving!products!to!guarantee!a!better!experience!for!the! customer.!Another!principle!would!be!optimism,!which!is!mainly!about!hope,!aspiration!and! positive!purpose!of!the!employees!and!company.!Walt!Disney!wanted!to!encourage!his! employees!to!be!innovative!and!comfortable!with!the!risks!they!take,!he!used!to!congratulate! employees!for!failing!on!a!certain!task!or!taking!the!wrong!decision!so!that!they!can!learn!from! their!mistakes!and!become!pleasant!and!satisfied!with!risk!not!fear.!Even!though!Disney’s! employees!operate!in!different!location!throughout!the!world,!the!central!casting!center! ensures!that!all!employees!have!the!same!values!and!provides!employees!with!a!relevant! training!and!education!experience,!they!hope!to!entertain!and!educate!employees!which!can! ensure!engagement!between!employees!and!producing!new!concepts.!As!Walt!Disney!once! stated!“When!the!subject!permits,!we!let!fly!with!all!the!satire!and!gags!at!our!command.! Laughter!is!no!enemy!to!learning.”!Which!reflects!this!value.! ! As!stated!before,!Google!and!Walt!Disney!Company!are!two!successful!companies!that! are!operating!in!different!markets,!taking!that!into!consideration!that!they!should!have!their! differences!in!their!strategies,!objectives!and!corporate!culture.!Since!Google!is!a!technological! firm!operating!in!a!market!that!frequently!changes,!it!searches!for!innovative!thinkers’!people! who!bring!in!new!concepts.!Therefore,!employees!have!the!freedom!to!talk!and!share!their! ideas!because!that!is!what!Google!wants.!The!organizational!culture!preserves!a!“small5 company!family!feel”!where!they!can!discuss!their!opinions!and!decide.!Such!features!are!even! viewed!at!Googolplex!where!it!encourages!employees!to!be!innovative!thinkers!and!think! outside!the!box.!As!for!Disney,!it!operates!in!the!entertainment!industry,!with!its!different!sets! of!objectives!and!goals!Disney’s!corporate!culture!is!quite!similar!to!Google.!They!do!encourage! employees!to!be!innovative!and!produce!new!products!to!satisfy!customers,!they!want! employees!to!be!comfortable!with!risks!and!not!fear.!And!by!following!such!principles!they!can! guarantee!customer!satisfaction.!

To!conclude,!corporate!culture!is!present!in!every!firm,!and!even!though!two! organizations!such!as!Google!and!Walt!Disney!Company!operate!in!different!market!and!cater! for!different!customers,!they!still!share!many!similarities!in!their!corporate!culture.!Where!they! were!both!influenced!by!their!founders!and!therefore!influenced!their!employees.! ! ! ! !
