Description

Guindy 1 Joey Guindy Jessica Durham English 101 9 April 2012 The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas When the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opened in December of 2010, a new spin on the city was born and vacationing on the Las Vegas Strip changed. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is the most expensive hotel casino to be built on the Las Vegas Strip. The $4 billion investment is clearly seen throughout the architecture of this Las Vegas skyscraper, defining what modern should look like. Just to name a few features of this luxury resort, the Cosmopolitan includes a three-story glass chandelier that makes up a cocktail bar, guests rave about the oversized luxury hotel rooms, and the management has lured in popular restaurants and retail shops. The Cosmopolitan is a hotel and casino that has met and exceeded all the expectations and needs of a luxury resort in Las Vegas. Being that Las Vegas is the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” a luxury hotel on the Strip would have to include shops, gaming, and nightlife entertainment. Another criteria a luxury hotel would have to include would be the lodging, the hotel rooms, and all the amenities included. Restaurants and fine dining is also a crucial component in a luxury hotel. The Cosmopolitan meets all of these needs and more. The Cosmopolitan’s best physical feature would be its verticality. In two, 50 plus story buildings connected by lower structures, the Cosmopolitan has everything you need in a Las Vegas hotel and casino. The Cosmopolitan has casino gaming, a spa, 14 restaurants, 3 pools, shops, and not to mention Marquee nightclub, one of the largest nightclubs in the world.

Guindy 2 When it comes to entertainment, the Cosmopolitan stopped at nothing. The art of entertainment reaches new heights in this hotel. From the bars, to the nightclubs, to the artwork, the Cosmopolitan takes the Las Vegas Strip nightlife to a new level. The Chandelier, in the center of the bottom floor of the Cosmopolitan houses a three-story bar in the shape of a glass chandelier serving sophisticated cocktails in a lounge. The Marquee Nightclub is more than 62,000 square feet and has managed to secure the top international house music DJs as residents, promising to impress every partygoer. At the Cosmopolitan, the artwork features collections of new media art from world famous artists, hosting video art on the columns in front of the lobby check-in desk. Shopping on Las Vegas Boulevard has reached a whole new level at the Cosmopolitan. There are a few small shops including limited edition sneakers and designs from eclectic new collections, shopping will never be the same in Las Vegas. Some of the weaknesses that the Cosmopolitan faces are the small narrow spaces available in their two buildings. But with these constraints, come new ideas. Gaming at the Cosmopolitan features over 100,000 square feet of casino offering the latest technology. Compared to other luxury hotels such as Wynn, Encore, and Aria, The Cosmopolitan excelled among its competitors in offering the first of its kind, Casino Cabanas. Casino Cabanas are private sections in the casino housing a bank of machines or blackjack tables. Another advantage of the small space in the Cosmopolitan is that unlike most casinos in Las Vegas, guests do not have to walk a great distance from the elevators of the room to the casino floor. Overall, I think that the Cosmopolitan has great entertainment and it is shown throughout the entire hotel. Now, when it comes to the rooms and suites at the Cosmopolitan, there is no match for its competitors. Everyone that comes to Las Vegas expects over the top luxury and this hotel features rooms that are residential-style living spaces each with their own wrap around terrace

Guindy 3 overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard and the famous fountains at the Bellagio. These studios that are usually almost always sold out feature sliding glass doors overlooking an oversized private terrace, a kitchenette with your own microwave and mini-bar, and a luxurious bathroom with marble flooring. The Cosmopolitan has managed to keep their room rates competitive with hotels such as Aria, Wynn, and Bellagio. I think that The Cosmopolitan has managed to keep their rooms at a reasonable price while still offering great service to their guests and keeping up with the new modern, luxurious style. Every good hotel needs to have good restaurants too. The restaurants, which are all new to Las Vegas, establish food credibility at the Cosmopolitan. The third floor consists of top-tier restaurants from world famous chefs. There is so much variety when it comes to dining at this hotel. Here you will find American, Japanese sushi, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and so much more. It has something for everyone. For people visiting Las Vegas and staying at this hotel, I feel that The Cosmopolitan has succeeded in meeting a typical Vegas vacationer’s dining needs. The entire third floor is dedicated to dining establishments that are all conveniently located around a large comfortable sitting area. There are cafes, burger bars, sushi restaurants, steakhouses, and even a hidden pizzeria serving slices late at night. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Las Vegas resort without a buffet. The Wicked Spoon Buffet at the Cosmopolitan has a great multicultural selection of dishes. Overall, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is one of the greatest additions to the Strip, putting a new spin on “Sin City.” The point of view is so distinct and like no other hotel in Las Vegas, attracting the young and sophisticated crowd. The Cosmopolitan may look like any other Vegas hotel from the outside but the inside is where you can see the real detail and time put into this new Vegas attraction, consisting of everything you need to enjoy a true Las Vegas vacation.

Guindy 4 Bringing in all the partygoers from previous hotels such as the Palms or Hard Rock, the Cosmopolitan has managed to evolve Las Vegas into a place that is defining its own unique style. This hotel is set to be the city’s last major opening for a few years, meaning that it will become the new standard for whatever is to come next in Las Vegas....
