Courses/Syllabus of the program Ice breaking Synopsis of the activity The first activity of the program is called ‘Ice Breaking’. This activity will take around fifteen to twenty minutes. The aim of this activity is for participants to be able to get to know who their group members are. Participants will need to do simple movements when they introduce themselves. This will help participants to remember the names as they will associate the name to the action. Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we expect that participants will be able to introduce their group members’ name verbally without any help from the other group members. We also expect that by making them do small actions, it will help them in gaining confidence to speak. Instructional Materials The instructional materials used for this activity is ‘human materials’ and speakers and microphone. The microphone and speaker will be used to give general instructions to the participants and the facilitators. The ‘human materials’ are the facilitators that will be helping to explain in details to the participants on how the activity will be conducted. Method of Delivery The activity will be conducted in Total Physical Response. We will be asking participants to introduce themselves in English and acting out any movement that they want to be associate with. The facilitators will first give an example of how it is done and participants will follow.

Evaluation We will be evaluating the participants by asking them to introduce their group mates along with the action that was associated with their name. If they can confidently introduce their group members at random, that will be considered as a success.

Country Boom Synopsis of the activity The second activity of the program is named ‘Country Boom’. This activity will take around fifteen to twenty minutes. The aim of this activity is for participants to be able to think fast as it is a speed game. Participants will also need to work together in deciding the next chant and they will need to focus as the other teams will pick at random who will be next. Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we expect that participants will be able to think of a word fast without help from the facilitators. We also expect that the participants will be able to develop or brush upon their teamwork skills with this activity. Instructional Materials Similar to the previous activity the instructional materials used for this activity is ‘human materials’ and speakers and microphone. The microphone and speaker will be used to give general instructions to the participants and the facilitators. The ‘human materials’ are the facilitators that will be helping to explain in details to the participants on how the activity will be conducted. If a group cannot reply to the chant in a time limit or is not synchronised on the chant, their group will be eliminated. Method of Delivery The activity will be conducted by letting the groups sit apart from each other. One group will be randomly pick to start the game via the MC who will give the instructions. During the first round, the facilitators will guide the groups on how to conduct the game. But after that, the participants are expected to continue the game on their own.

Evaluation We will be evaluating the participants by observing their participations as the activity is conducted. As we will be eliminating groups as the game goes, we will be observing their teamwork and their speed in the game.

Secret Bucket Synopsis of the activity This will be the last activity of the day. The secret bucket will be conducted among the small groups. Facilitators will have a bucket or a box filled with strip of papers. These strips of papers have idioms that are commonly used or heard. Each member will take turn in pulling out of the bucket and they will have to act out the idioms. They cannot give verbal hints and only use actions or movements as clues. This will be repeated until all the idioms are acted out. Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we expect that participants will be able to identify idioms based on nonverbal clues. We also expect that students are able to learn new idioms that hopefully will help them in their writing and expressing themselves in the future. Instructional Materials The instructional materials used for this activity is ‘human materials’, buckets and piece of papers. The ‘human materials’ are the facilitators that will handle the participants and making sure that participants are joining the activity. The buckets will be use to store the papers and the papers will have printed idioms on them. Method of Delivery The activity will be conducted in Total Physical Response. We will be asking participants to act out the idioms physically without any words or verbal hints. The other members of the group will have to guess based on the actions. Facilitators will only step in when needed. Evaluation We will be evaluating the participants by how many they guessed correct. We will also evaluate them based on how the act and if they used any words to give hints to their group

members. If they are seen breaking the rules of the game, they will lose the mark for the idiom.

Explorace: Spell it right Synopsis of the activity The explorace will be divided into three activities. One of the activities that will be conducted will be ‘Spell it right’. The aim of this activity is to test their ability in spelling. Each participant will need to spell a certain word. These words will be chosen by random. Participants will pull out a piece of paper from a bucket and the facilitator will be saying the word and the participant will be asked to spell the word. If they do not manage to spell it, anyone from the group may volunteer to help Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we are expecting students to be able to spell words that they are familiar with without any help. Instructional Materials The instructional materials used for this activity is similar to that of ‘Secret Bucket’ where there will be ‘human materials’, pieces of papers and a bucket. The ‘human materials’ will be the facilitators that will be handling the game. They will be making sure that participants will get the words by random and that the participants spelled the words correctly. The bucket will hold the papers so participants can pull it at random. And the pieces of papers will have the words that participants need to spell. Method of Delivery The activity will be conducted individually for each group. Although each participant will be spelling by themselves, the points will go to the group points. Each participant will pull the papers at random and give it to the facilitators. The facilitators will then pronounce the word and an explanation and meaning of the word. The participant that had pulled the word will then asked to spell the word. They will be given three tries. If by their third try they are still unable to spell it, anyone from the group may volunteer to take their place. This will be repeated until all participants are finished. Evaluation We will be evaluating the participants by checking their spellings. No marks will be deducted if participants are unable to spell it. However, if no one in the group is able to spell it, no point will be given to the group.

Explorace: Broken Telephone Synopsis of the activity The explorace will be divided into three activities. One of the activities that will be conducted will be ‘Broken telephone’. Broken telephone is where only one participant will be given the sentence verbally. The first player will have to pass the sentence verbally to the next player and this will go on until the last player gets the sentence. The last participant will be asked what was the sentence whispered to them. If the sentence is correct, they will earn a point. Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we are expecting students to be able to listen to the sentence carefully and are able to convey the sentence to their group members correctly. Instructional Materials The instructional materials used for this activity is similar to the previous activity where there will be ‘human materials.’ This ‘human material’ will be the facilitator. They will whisper the sentence to the first participant. Method of Delivery The activity will be conducted by the facilitator whispering the sentence to the first participant. The participant will be asked to convey the line to the next participant until the last participant have received the sentence. They will then repeat the sentence loudly and facilitators will check if the sentence is correct. Evaluation We will be evaluating the participants by checking if the sentence that the last participant had heard is the correct one. If they fail to say the correct message, they will not get any points. They are given two chances to get the message correct.

Explorace: Jigsaw Puzzle Synopsis of the activity The explorace will be divided into three activities. One of the activities that will be conducted will be ‘Jigsaw Puzzle’. In this activity, the groups will be given one long word. The group members will need to find words that can be made from the long word.

Course Learning Outcome From this activity, we are expecting students to be able to form new words based on an existing word. They will also need to have a good teamwork in order to come out with new words. Instructional Materials The instructional materials used for this activity is similar to the ‘Spell it right’ where there will be ‘human materials’, bucket and pieces of paper.
