Although he had the abilities of God, he decided to be modest and die for our sins. 2. Read John 1:1-3. What other familiar passage in Scripture does this remind you of? Genesis 1 3. In what ways does the textbook say that Jesus is similar to Moses and David? The textbook says that Jesus is a strong leader and savior, as was Moses and David. 4. Briefly summarize the parable of the sower from Mark 4. The parable of the sower from Mark 4 can be described as trusting in Jesus. Seeds fell onto the path and the birds ate it. Again, the farmer plants seeds and they fall onto the rocks and there isn’t enough soil to allow them to survive. Finally, the seeds fall on prosperous land where the seeds grow into beautiful crops that can be harvested. Planting your seeds in a variety of areas will always give you different results, don’t lose faith. 5. Briefly list the three temptations of Jesus from Matthew 4. 1. The tempter (Satan) commanded Jesus to “tell these stones to become bread” (Matthew 4:3). 2. For Christ to jump off the highest point of the temple and be caught by angels. 3. 6. How is Jesus described in 1 Corinthians 1:24 and John 1:1? In 1 Corinthians 1:24 Jesus is described as the power and wisdom of God. John 1:1 explains that God is all powerful. 7. In the overview, Jesus is described as fully God and fully man; now briefly describe the Trinity and Jesus’ position in the Trinity. The Trinity is the Father (God), the Son (Jesus Christ), the Holy Spirit. Jesus is fully man and the all-powerful God. He was sent to earth by God to die for our sins because he knew his son would never betray him. Christ’ actions are the guidelines to how we should be living our lives. Putting others before ourselves. 8. Briefly describe the kingdom of God as taught in the textbook. God reigns over his creation, including mankind. He built a kingdom that supported man and God to coexist in peace. 9. Read John 10:1-18 and briefly summarize how Jesus cares for his sheep. Jesus was a good shepherd who was faithful and kind to his sheep. They would recognize his voice and know if a thief or robber came to the gate. Christ will put the sheep before himself no matter what, which is why the sheep trust in him. No one will control Jesus’ actions because he will always choose his sheep over himself. 10. Briefly summarize the context and story of the parable of the good Samaritan in Luke 10:2937. A man was assaulted by robbers and a priest and Levite passed by him while he was suffering and did not help. A good Samaritan came to his assistance, bandaged him up, and brought him to an inn to be cared for. Jesus told the expert in the law, possibly a Pharisee, to “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37). Christ told those around him to spread love to your neighbor, as it is the right and selfless thing to do. 11. According to the overview, what is the atonement, and where in the Old Testament is this referred to in prophecy seven times? Atonement is stated in an excerpt from Isaiah 53 “He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities...6 and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all...8 stricken for the transgression of my people...10 when his soul makes an offering for sin...11 and he shall bear their iniquities...12 yet he bore the sin of many”. Atonement is Jesus Christ being tortured and crucified on the cross for our sins. 12. What does the incarnation refer to? According to the overview, what three reasons are stated in Scripture for why God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ? 2

Lastly, Christ was the sacrifice that was needed to save humanity. He died for our sins. 14. Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-25. What is the Apostle Paul referring to when he says at the end, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men”? God does not possess any weaknesses or foolishness; he is all powerful. However, mankind exists with flaws for eternity.
