Ethical Decision-Making Name: Raiden Perez Course: CWV Date: 11/6/2020 Instructor: Pastor Josh 1. Why do Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective, rather than relative and subjective? If morality is objective, where do Christians get their moral standard? Cite Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and/or topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Your answer in 75-100 words: I think christians believe that morality is absolute and objective due to their moral standard, which they get from the Bible and the teachings that Jesus to those at the time. The bible and Jesus’s teaching are like a guide to us in how we should live our daily lives. In addiction to that, It has been understood the humans in general know good from bad, right from wrong, and lastly were made in the image of God. In the textbook in “chapter seven” it states “although our moral sense is imperfect, we have a basic sense of morality built into our natures and written on our hearts” 2. Use the case you chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document to answer the following questions to build the Christian ethical response. Use logical reasoning (general revelation). Cite Bible passages (special revelation), The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, and/or the topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. a. Which case did you choose? Abortion After try ng for many years, Ruth finally gets pregnant. A blood test confirms that her baby has Down syndrome, and her doctors suggest she abort the fetus. A child with Down syndrome would involve extra care which could continue for a lifetime. Ruth has a successful career and wants to maintain a healthy balance between her career and family. b. In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why? Your answer in 75-100 words: In the case that I chose to talk about was the Abortion Case, which now abortion is a sensitive topic, it was sort of difficult to determine a particular worldview for the case. Abortion to a lot of people is a very sensitive especially to people with such strong and core beliefs. The message behind the Pro life stance is based on the idea that every human life is a gift from God and has a purpose on this earth for a reason. So when it comes to abortion, it just doesn’t question ethics but also human nature and actions on the act of abortion can be seen as a sinful act. c. How does the Christian worldview describe the worldview element you identified? Your answer in 75-100 words: Overall the beliefs of the Christian Worldview are that humans typically have sense of goodness and know good from bad. Ethically speaking, a majority of Christians attempt to live a life that honors God and by doing they follow God’s Ten Commandments and by allowing the Holy Spirit to guide them. d. What are Bible passages (cite at most three) that will guide the ethics for the case you choose? How do these Bible passages apply to this case? Your answer in 75-100 words: The main issue that occurs with the specific case, being abortion, is that abortion overall is ending the life or an unborn fetus, which disrupts God’s plan for life. Some verses that support the Pro life side on the subject is “Thou hall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). Another verse is, ““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations”(Jeremiah 1:5). And lastly, “ Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.(Psalm 127:3-4) e. Based on your answers to b and c, explain the Christian response to the case you chose. In other words, how might the Christian worldview resolve the issue?

Your answer in 75-100 words: The Christian Worldview supports and aggress with the Pro life side on abortion and there are several Christian nonprofit organizations and churches that fund different types of outreaches and provide aid to those who need support. The belief on abortion from the Christian Worldview stance, is that every life has a purpose, valuable and is a gift/blessing from God. 3. Your previous responses built a Christian ethical stance and provided a Christian resolution for the case. How might this Christian resolution to the issue increase human dignity and human value? Your answer in 50-75 words: The Christian worldview to support the pro life stance on abortion increase both dignity and human value by speaking up and having a voice for the unborn babies who don’t have a voice for themselves. A majority of Christians believe that every human is a life and a gift from God and the Bible states that in the passage of Job 33:4 “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” 4. The Christian position that humans should flourish comes from belief in the goodness of God. How so? What are the connections between God's goodness and human flourishing? Your answer in 50-75 words: The Christian worldview believes that by through the goodness and by the grace of God that we are cleaned from our nature to commit sin and guided by the Holy Spirit to live ethical and good lives. Some connections between God’s goodness and Human flourishing is that Christianity, encourages happiness and support themselves with Jesus and his teaching throughout the Bible, and this does a good job of promoting human flourishing. 5. Considering the Christian resolution you built for the case and everyone involved in the scenario, what might be some benefits or unintended consequences that come from this resolution? What might be challenging for people to accept or do? Your answer in 75-100 words:

In this Specific abortion case, the best choice to make as a Christian would be to keep the unborn baby, but also accept it as a way that God might use this as a lesson for you to have as stronger relationship with him and for him to be closer to you. A challenge that could be challenging is raising a chid with Downs Syndrome, so education the mother on how to raise a child who has a disability is a big step and an important one. Overall a long term challenge is ultimately realizing the reality of living with a child that has a disability like Downs Syndrome. 6. What are some ways that Christians should be active in helping to alleviate the suffering related to this issue? Give specific examples that ordinary people can do. Your answer in 75-100 words: There are several ways that christians can help in this specific issue. One way that can help with alleviating suffering is by simply providing a judgment free zone to help the mothers and support them with options for unplanned or unwanted pregnancies. Another way that can help is by creating non-profits in their local communities to aid and provide options for the mothers, Some ways that ordinary people can help is by making donations to organizations or helping local communities.
