Description

D2L #7 Malik Roberson D2L Prompt: Date: 7 October 2020 Who did I talk to? Alex Peters & Pawel Siglowy What was the topic(s) of the conversation? Types of hacking, when is it acceptable, software What did I learn? Different types of hacking as well as how the definition and nature of hacking has transformed over time. What did we agree on and why? Hacking can be ethical or unethical depending on the context behind it. For example, when the FBI cracked the San Bernardino shooter’s phone, it was ethical as it could potentially stop future attacks and save lives. But when an individual hacks a system for personal gain, such as political or financial, it is an unethical hack. What did we disagree on and why? Whether or not inventors have a moral responsibility to the use of their inventions. I believe that if the inventor meant no malice behind the invention, and it is eventually used for evil, the ones using the technology for evil should be held responsible and not the inventor. Unless, of course, the intent behind the invention was to cause harm, in which case, the inventor should be held liable. What do I wish we could have talked more about? Cases in which an inventor’s product went on to be used for evil when none was intended. What made me uncomfortable and why? How prevalent malware has become on the internet and the fact that one wrong click may compromise all my data. What surprised me from this conversation? How Facebook started as a simple site to connect college students and has now spread to everywhere on the planet. While the intent of the site was originally pure, in the present it deals with tons of ethical and privacy issues. Was everyone participating? Yes Approximate length of the conversation: 15 minutes...
