epEd executes LRN in public schools (by: Aydin Juliannah Pizarra)

The Department of Education commanded the implementation of the LRN among public school students nationwide for the School Year 2012-2013.

The Unique Learner Reference Number (LRN) will be issued to all elementary and secondary school students nationwide.

LRN will be each student’s permanent 12-digit identification number while they complete the basic education curriculum and will be effective even if they will transfer to other schools.

The said reference number will be associated with the student’s documents, forms, examinations and databases such as the student’s Form 137, Form 138, National Achievement Test (NAT) scores, Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Examinations and diploma.

According to the DepEd Order No. 22, series of 2012, The Database Management Unit-Office of the Planning Service (DBMU-OPS) shall be responsible for distributing the Learner’s Reference Numbers to all students.

Division (Alternative Learning System) ALS coordinators will also be accountable for the issuance of the ALS students’ LRN.

“Siyempre, makakatulong iyon kung halimbawa yung bata, may kaso, may reference agad”, said Mrs. Jenette de Sagun, a MAPEH Department faculty member.

School directors as well as the Division ALS coordinators are obliged to request for their students’ LRN, provided that they are liable for any inaccurate information of each particular student.

“Mahusay nga iyon, at least, meron nang reference number yung bata. So, hindi na siya maliligaw,hindi na mawawala yung forms niya, tapos pag may ginawa siyang kasalanan, malalaman agad”, a Filipino Department faculty member Ms. Maria Cristina Camposano added.

MAPEH department head Mrs. Leticia Ayende also explained that the LRN is the equivalent of the National ID for adults among the students.

However, DepEd assured that other information that may identify the student will be kept confidential at all costs.

DepEd also allowed deactivation of a student’s LRN for particular reasons such as dropping out of school.
