What distinguishes an organized crime from conventional crime? A conventional crime or a white-collar crime consists of one individual committing a crime or offense. The existence of a conventional crime can end either in prosecution or death of the individual, limiting perpetuity. Organized crime will require 3 or more people, planing, with the intention to commit one or more crimes. Their goal is direct or indirect gain, which can be carried out by gathering intel, sources, monetary support, or transportation. It can occur on a regional, national, or international level, even if a member is dead or prosecuted by the law. Slide 8 What benefits and drawbacks does bureaucratic organizational structure bring to an organized crime group? Benefits that exist under a bureaucratic organized crime structure are the opportunities of expansion through the informal and shaped based structure. The expansion will require formal hierarchy, skilled persons, division of labor and documentation of transactions or planned crimes, The drawbacks that come with the bureaucratically organized crime are the risks in being intercepted when communicating through different levels of command when planning out a crime, the risks in recording data such as timestamps, earnings, or activities in association with the crime, potential arrests made towards the upper-level organizers, the possible events of death or incarceration to a valuable member, or absence of personal ties, heightening the chance of betrayal in an operation following bureaucratic organized crime
