Summary

Dissertation - Timeline advice, how to plan week by week....

Description

Suggested dissertation timeline Important dates noted in bold; others are advised as suitable targets to ensure you keep the dissertation moving over the year. Draft written work will be returned as quickly as possible, but you should allow at least a week and a half/ two weeks for me to read and comment on work. Please factor this into your calculations about when you aim to submit work. Don’t forget that you are entitled to up to 5 hours of supervision per term – please contact me for an appointment as soon as you think it might be useful. Do also bear in mind that I am only employed part-time by the University, so I will not be available all the time. I will work with you to ensure that you get to see me and/or get feedback as promptly as possible.

NB – I haven’t included time for primary research in this outline, so you must be sure to figure this in (ideally over the summer).

First Term Induction week: Group tutorial (Supervisor and all their supervisees) Week 1/2: First supervision, to make plans and consider dissertation structure and timings Week 4: Dissertation Assessment Artefact 1 due Week 9: Draft of Chapter 1 submitted Second Term Week 14: Draft of Chapter 2 submitted Week 17: Draft of Chapter 3 submitted Week 20: Deadline for whole draft dissertation Please note that after the deadline I cannot provide written feedback on draft dissertation work By Easter: return of comments on whole draft dissertation CAP End of CAP week 1: Deadline for submission of full dissertation

If you run into any difficulties (be they problems finding primary or secondary sources, doubts about your topic, personal problems), please contact me as soon as they occur! I will try to help where I can, and it’s always much easier to help if we know about issues early.
