Generic Name: Doxylamine/ pyridoxine Brand Names: (max 4) Diclegis, Diclectin Classification Antiemetics Antihistamines, vit. B6 analogue

Parameters Drug-Drug: ↑ risk of CNS depression with others CNS depressant (alcohol, other antihistamines, sedatives, opioids) Route- PO(Adults) 1-2 tablets at bedtime

Action: Combination of antihistamines and vitamin B6 analogue Decrease nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy Contraindications Hypersensitivity to Doxylamine or pyridoxine; Concurrent use of MAOIs Doxylamine enters breast milk and may cause irritability or sedation in infants

Nursing Implication/Responsibility Access for frequency and amount of emesis daily Monitor hydration status to prevent dehydration Administer on empty stomach with full glass of water Swallow whole, do not crush Evaluation Asses for decrease in frequency of nausea and vomiting

Parameters Drug-Drug: Use with extreme caution in patients receiving MAO inhibitors within 14 days prior (may result in unpredictable, severe reactions–↓ initial dose of morphine to 25% of usual dose). Concomitant use of kava-kava, valerian, or chamomile can ↑ CNS depression.
