Prerequisite: MATH 121, MATH 130 & MIS 118 Course Description: The course will cover the following topics: construction of statistical models, especially the use of statistical tools and techniques such as chi-square tests of independence, analysis of variance, simple and multiple linear regressions and correlation, and the use of extrapolating methods such as moving average and exponential smoothing. 1. TEXTBOOK Statistics for Business and Economics. Anderson, Sweeney, Williams, Freeman, Shoesmith. 4th edition

2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi.

Understand sampling distribution theory and how it relates to statistical inference Learn the use of Confidence Intervals in the Sampling Process Be able to conduct hypothesis tests and apply the results to business decision making Learn a method of testing whether or not an observed frequency distribution differs from a theoretical distribution (A test of goodness of fit) Learn test of variance (ANOVA test) Test, analyze, and interpret the relationship between two or more variables

3. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS The way the student is expected to acquire the skills, knowledge, and/or abilities is through listening to lectures and practicing skills in practice problems.

7. ATTENDANCE/ MAKE-UP POLICY Attendance according to university’s policy is mandatory. Students are required to attend classes regularly and actively participate in all class activities. It is the student’s responsibility to attend all of their classes. If they miss a class meeting for any reason, students are responsible for all contents that are covered, for announcements made in their absence, and for acquiring any materials that have been distributed in class. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to get the notes and handouts from another student; I do not give out my notes and I do not keep handouts after class. University’s Attendance Policy for classes that meet twice a week for 1 hour and 20 minutes each: 1- If a student misses 3 hours of lectures, a first warning is issued to the student. 2- If a student misses 6 hours of lectures, a second warning is issued to the student. 3- If a student misses 9 hours of lectures, a third warning is issued to the student. 4- If a student misses 12 hours of lectures, then the student will be dropped automatically from the course. 5- For item #4 above, if this occurs before the end of the 10th week a “WA” grade will be assigned. 6- For item #4 above, if this occurs after the 10th week an “FA” grade will be assigned. 7- For students who are registered in only 12 credits (or 4 courses) before the dropping of the course then the only grade that will be assigned to the course the student is being dropped from is an “FA”. 8- The classes missed above refer to all absences irrespective of the reasons. All exams are mandatory. No make-up exam will be arranged unless the circumstances happened to be extraordinary and do not violate University's policies.

HAVE A NICE STATISTICS COURSE!
