LAB SAFETY SYMBOLS You will see many lab safety symbols this year. So that you are aware of each symbol’s meaning and the precautions that must be taken to ensure safety in the lab, you will write the rules for each of the safety symbols shown to you today. Never use broken glassware Safety goggles should alway be worn while using glassware Never heat glassware that isn’t throughly dried Use heat-resistant gloves to pick up glassware Always clean glassware thoroughly before putting it away
Safety goggles should be worn when working with fire Never heat anything unless instructed to do so Never heat anything with a closed container Never reach across a flame
Always use clamps, tongs, or heat resistant gloves to handle hot object Have a clean work area Know location of fire extinguisher and fire blanket
Immediately rinse with water any chemicals that get on your skin and
Never smell chemicals directly-WAFT Clothes and notify your teacher Never mixed chemicals unless instructed to do so Never touch or taste chemicals unless told too Keep all lids close when not use Dispose of chemicals and instructed by your teacher . Must wear safety goggles When heating a test tube or bottle , always point it away from you and others
Handle sharp instruments with care Always cut materials away fro, you Notify your teacher if you cut your skin
Do not plus more than two appliances in at any one outlet Never touch electrical with water Keep liquids away from outlets
Do not cause pain or injury to an animal Do not perform in humane stunts with an animal specimen Wash your hands throughly after handling animals or their cages
