Personal Development ACTIVITY 1.4: ABC Method of Self-Management

Instruction: Describe the situation in which you suffered from lack of sleep, not eating healthy, or stressed out. Apply the ABC method to work through the scenario and achieve a positive outcome.

A = ACTUAL EVENT When I was in junior high school I used to had not enough of sleep. Going to school without enough sleep made me really stress, I barely focused on our class discussion, I couldn’t participate in recitation and worst, I was having a hard time to understand our topic.

B = BELIEF I had this belief before that I might not be able to had an enough and good sleep but, at least I was enjoying doing scrolling up and down through social media. In addition to this, I was thinking that I’m still young so, excessive social networking wouldn't have much negative impact on me. C = CHALLENGE I still remember the reason why going to school without having a good sleep. It was primarily because I was not sleeping on time, I was spending too much time on my social media, not thinking about my tomorrow’s class. Furthermore, I actually have insomnia which making it more challenging to me to get good sleep.

At least one strategy I learned in this module that I plan to try right away is: All strategies mentioned in the module are really a great help to avoid stress. Personally, I’ll start immediately with establishing my hobbies and interest. I firmly believe that, by having own hobbies and interest it makes mind mind, body and physical attribute active. Also, spending my times on something that is interesting will boost my intellectual capacity.

What changes must I make in order for this strategy to be effective? Firstly, I have to be disciplined and responsible on my own time. I have to divide my time smartly, give it to something that will make me productive such as, what I’m doing right now, instead of social and networking and playing games, I’m doing my homework. Second is to stop absorbing so much negativity and energy around me. Focus on something that’s healthy to me.
