THIRD & FINAL YEAR CURRICULUM INFORMATION AY2021-2022
Abstract Students are required to read 2 third-year elective, plus 2 final-year design and 3 technical elective courses to prepare them for the relevant specialized final year fields. A student’s choice of courses is usually governed by several considerations, including intended careerpaths. All students are strongly advised to consult early and widely in their choice of courses.
EEE Academic Programme Office [email protected]
THIRD YEAR PRESCRIBED ELECTIVES (AY2021-2022) THIRD YEAR COURSE STRUCTURE In the third year, students are taught the basic principles, which underpin a broad spectrum of technologies covered by the area of electrical and electronic engineering. These include core courses on Engineering Electromagnetics, and Microprocessors. In addition, students will select two Major Prescribed Electives from a list of more specialized courses in preparation for more in-depth specialization in their final year. Direct-Entry Year 3 students are required to take up Professional Internship (PI) in Semester 1, as stated in their course curriculum. This would allow students to have more internship opportunities, instead of competing with their Year 1 peers. The recommended third year curriculums for the respective groups of students are summarised below: EE3001 Engineering Electromagnetics Core Courses
EE3002 Microprocessor EE3080 Design & Innovation Project
Admitted to Year 1 in AY2019 (Semester 1)

Students should note that the third-year Major Prescribed Elective courses are prerequisites to some final year design and technical elective courses. Their choice should be guided by their intended choice of courses in their final year. Students, who wish to select more than two elective courses, may appeal to read them as Unrestricted Electives but only after registering the first two required Prescribed Elective courses. Once registered, they will NOT be allowed to change their Prescribed Electives into Unrestricted Electives, or vice-versa. Any additional electives undertaken by the students will be counted towards their Unrestricted Elective Requirement and CGPA computation. (Note: Students must seek help from the EEE Academic Programme Office to register any Major Prescribed Elective as Unrestricted Elective. Such requests can only be accorded subjected to availability of vacancy.)

FINAL YEAR COURSE STRUCTURE Final-year students are given more flexibility to select their elective courses to better suit their interest and inclinations. Students will not be required to declare their final year option group before they start their final year studies. Instead, they have the option to either read their final year courses in their preferred specialization or mix-and-match the Design and Technical Electives from other option groups.
