But how far has the special position of the English language been classified in our society and when did English become a global language? In this regard, it is not negligible that for several decades, especially the POC community has suffered from systematic racism, not only in the USA, but in many parts of the world. It must be clearly emphasized that language is part of a culture and in this respect it is also a tool to practice racism. For decades, the POC community has had to adopt their language to the white man, which in this case includes the English language. This is an essential aspect that should not be left out when talking about English as a global language. Through the cultural appropriation, to which especially POC people are forced, it comes at the same time to an impoverishment in the linguistic diversity. In order to participate successfully in society, one is forced to master English. Until today, English has been a tool for communication with other nations, in this case communication with mainly white people. The prioritized position of the English language is also widely followed, especially here in Europe, which is why 90% of all European school children already learn English at school. When debating this topic, it is also important to remember that a global language offers many advantages in communication.
