Electronic mail The client-server approach to email Two-tier client-server application - Sender uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send a message to a mail server, which forward the message to the recipient’s mail server (also using SMTP). - Recipient uses either Post Office Protocol (POP) / Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) to access their emails on server
