EMBRACING AGILE There is no doubt that agile has revolutionized IT, in many ways that can be stated in a simple statement. With the rapid changes and ever evolving industries agile supports these changes. Most importantly its not better methodologies but the execution of the methodologies by the executives and leaders to conduct and lead their teams for growth and better execution. But that fact lies that have we really embraced it with all that it has to offer, and I can positively say NO. This article has better my understanding on the factors that agile has to offer and that most people who work with agile are ignorant of what it is and what it does to their work? Most of their understanding is just terms like sprint, plan, reviews, standups etc. Undermining the effectiveness of agile It can be implemented in IT but what it offers can be implemented across all if not most industries and departments of any company be it marketing, sales, human resource, warehousing to leadership. There are 6 crucial aspects to how we can implement agile. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Learn How Agile Really Works Understand Where Agile Does or Does Not Work Start Small and Let the Word Spread Allow “Master” Teams to Customize Their Practices Practice Agile at the Top Destroy the Barriers to Agile Behaviors

To elaborate itFirst and foremost, if agile is implemented well then you will not reap its benefits. For it to work well the execution must be right and it can only be done if it is learnt well. Anything half-baked well not taste good. Secondly, just because something is good doesn’t mean it has to good everywhere. It depends on many factors and if factors are favorable then you will see that things will run smoothly. Factors like customer input regularly, complex work, feedback if these are not met easily then the agile methodology might not play well. As is true for many practices. It’s better to implement changes in small sectors and see how it effects the process and let people notice how it has made their work easier and more effective. “You believe what you see”. When people start to notice how good the growth and profit is, they will automatically implement it and likewise spreads throughout the company.

It is better to guide the teams into learning and mastering the art first and then mold it according to their needs as a better practice. This way not only do they have the flexibility and freedom to do what is needed but also with the best understanding of agile. What we forget is agile is not for just the IT and tiny team but first it should be well executed by the executives to make them understand it better so that they can imply it with their teams. Let’s start small but let’s take it from the TOP. To destroy the barriers we have to let there be one Boss for each decision, who focuses on team efforts and not individuals to get everyone on the same page and adjust their roles according to the team and project, and lead them not with orders but with questions to get the best and most efficient output.

I like the quote by General George S. Patton Jr. that “leaders never to tell people how to do things: “Tell them what to do, and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.” It is easy to impose on people, but the best results are yielded when we let people be creative by guiding them the best way possible. Some of the best leaders in the world have implemented this....
