Enduring Issue Essay Conflict is a disagreement between two or more parties. Conflict is a significant enduring issue because it affected many people. As shown in the Indian wars, the Spanish American wars, and WWI. Many people were affected because of the amount people killed, the effects on the economy, and the affects on people’s home lives. The Indian wars were a conflict that affected many people. The people involved in this war were the Apache, the Sioux, and Americans. The war was fought during the late 1800’s in the American West. The war was fought because the Americans wanted the native Americans land. In the article by L. Frank Baum published on December 20, 1890 the main idea was that because of the war the native American culture died and so did their land. As shown in this quote “The proud spirit of the Indians, original owners of these vast prairies, is gone”. (Doc. 1) This shows many people were affected because the land the native Americans once had is now gone along with their spirit or culture. In Custer’s Last Stand General George Armstrong Custer attacked the native Americans for the precious metal on their land and when Custer’s men started to attack so did the native Americans, it was a massacre and everyone died except for a few native Americans. The Spanish American war was a significant conflict that affected many people. The war was fought between the U.S. and Spain in 1898. It was fought in Cuba and the Philippines. America fought in the war to support Cuba and to protect the sugar cane industry they had in Cuba. The main of idea of the article by President William McKinley published on April 20, 1898 was the president’s reasons for a declaration of war on Spain. As shown in this quote “The destruction of the battleship Maine has filled the national heart with inexpressible horror”. (doc. 2) This shows that many people were affected because American lives were lost, and it sparked a war were even more lives were taken....
