Engineering Profile Paper

born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California, was an inventor and designer who was known famously during his time as chief executive and chairman of Apple, as well as being one of the co-founders. In August 2011, he resigned as the CEO of Apple, and passed away in October 5, 2011. I chose to write about Steve Jobs because he is one of my most important inspirations to be an innovator, and a successor in the field of computer science. Jobs attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and dropped out after 6 months, and hopped in and out of online classes for the next 18 months, until he founded Apple in 1976 with his highschool classmate Wozniak. Jobs and Wozniak together designed and released user-friendly computers and devices, slowly increasing the value of the company; the breakthrough point came when Jobs was appointed CEO of Apple again in 1997, and in 2007, Apple held a surplus of $18 billion with no debt, due to the ingenious ideas of the Macbook Pro, Iphone, and iTunes music store. Alongside being a major part of Apple, Jobs bought Pixar, an animation studio that later released hit movies such as Toy Story and Finding Nemo. In 2011, Jobs had an estimated net worth of $6.5 million, and continued his success as an innovator and businessman as CEO of Apple until August of 2011, where he had been fighting pancreatic cancer, and it was time to retire. Even though Jobs never finished college, he had found incredible success wherever he had worked, and this is due to his leadership, persistence, simplicity, and management style, which motivates me to carry these qualities when I enter the computer science field. As a student, I must be able to visualize my ideas and be persistent in anything I do in order to find success like Steve Jobs. I would like to end this paper on an inspirational quote from Steve Jobs that has stuck with me, “If you haven’t found it, keep looking. Don’t settle.”
