English 103 “Traditional and Modern values in the boat”
Tradiitional: puts less emphamsis on materlistic poessions. Traditional values were considered the norm something you adhered to an did not question. Traditional values refer to those beliefs, moral codes, and mores that are passed down from generation to generation within a culture, subculture or community. Modern: individuals are free to be who they want, Modern times. An era of new ideas and shared global values. Modern values include people’s right to live together in a society that accepts everyone for who they are, and where you’re free to be who you are unless you are physically or mentally hurting someone else.
In his partially autobiographical essay, “The Boat”, Alistar McLeod explores a moral dilemma in the inetegration of modern values within a conservative traditional community. Ultimatley, Mcleod evokes that history and traditons define our identities and impact our future, although, traditions inhibit personal growth....
