Emotion: What emotion was the author trying to express?

“After Love” by Sara Teasdale The poem seems to be about how she is dealing with her breakup and how it has affected her as a person. Most of the words in this poem were very easy to understand, only a few words did not make sense to me, for example “splendor”, “listless”, and “surcease.” The phrase that moved me and helped me understand the feeling of the author was “You work no miracle for me.”

Yes, I could feel the wind and smell the sea.

The poetic devices used were metaphors, similes, personification, and rhyme. These devices helped show her feelings. For example, the metaphor “You were the wind and I the sea,” shows how he used to make her so happy and move her, but now without him life is so calm without any wind.

The author was trying to express some sadness but mainly the closure she is able to feel.

Meaning: What is the poem saying about life or love? Do you agree or disagree with this message? Explain. Are there any other reasonable ways to interpret this poem?

I believe the poem shows how love can come and go and that in the moment love can “move” you and make you happy. I agree with this message because in life nothing is guaranteed and love does sometimes leave for reasons we sometimes will never understand or agree with, but sometimes it is for the better.

Publication: What kind of magazine or other publication would be the best place for this type of poem?

The kind of magazine that would be the best for the poem is “Love Stinks.”...
