1.0 INTRODUCTION

A commonly used iron is a small electrical appliance that when heated, it is used to press clothes to remove creases and help prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In the modern world, the designs have been invented to become electric iron which uses resistive heating from an electric current. The hot plate, called the sole plate, is made of aluminium or stainless steel polished to be as smooth as possible; it is sometimes coated with a low-friction heat-resistant plastic to reduce friction below that of the metal plate. The heating element is controlled by a thermostat that switches the current on and off to maintain the selected temperature ++Sso that it is suitable for all types of textile. The iron is usually heavy because heavier iron will cover a greater pressing area. Such ironing facilities take longer time to warm up than conventional irons, and cost more. Meanwhile, as the industrialized world grows bigger people have invented steam ironing stations which consist of a clothes iron and a separate steam-generating tank. By having a separate tank, the ironing unit can generate more steam than a conventional iron, making steam ironing faster. As for today, our group designed a wireless portable 3-in-1 steam iron that consists of 3 main functions which is steam iron, lint remover and power bank for users ultimate convenience. To explain further it is invented perfect for those who wanted a handy steam iron with multifunction in an iron. Other than that, the steam iron is energy conserved so that overly-used electrical energy will not be wasted. We develop the portable 3-in-1 steam iron to keep your garments looking perfect in the fastest and most efficient ways possible.

2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT

The problems arise when the iron is not user-friendly for college students and travellers. It is because when using an iron it requires an ironing board, or a flat heat-resistant surface to place the garment on. An iron needs to be pressed against the fabric in order to smooth any wrinkles out when its metal base is heated up. The iron also takes a lot of time on straightening the clothes that affect the use of electricity as it is long-term energy consumption. The iron needs a little bit of time to heat up, which can be a pain if you’re the sort who usually irons clothes at the last minute before rushing out of the house especially college students that always and need to attend classes on time. In contrast, the clothes iron steamer releases hot steam that relaxes the fibres in the garment, without any direct contact needed. Clothes iron steamers work wonderfully on softer fabrics such as silk, chiffon, and pleated fabrics. With a clothes steamer, you’ll only have to hang the garment up and get to work with the steamer, without any other tools needed. This size-friendly clothes steamer that promises to get you wrinkle-free clothes in no time as it steam the wrinkles away. There is also no risk of accidentally scorching your clothes, unlike with an iron. The clothes steamer works faster as it takes no time to heat up and you can use it immediately to straighten out your clothes. The clothes steamer is also handier than the iron in the sense that it allows you to easily smoothen out the hard-to-reach places, potentially saving you some time in the process. Other than that, it is great for packing and taking along on a business trip to keep your clothing fresh and wrinkle-free. These usually have enough power to work well for the business person who has to rely on their clothing looking great for that on the road business meeting.Plus, a concerned traveler could even use a travel garment steamer to steam the bedding or curtains in their hotel room if they were worried about germs or bedbugs. The bottom line is that if you want a device that will quickly get rid of the wrinkles in your clothing as well as sanitize and get them smelling fresh and clean, a garment steamer is a device that you need.

3.0 DETAIL OF PRODUCT / INNOVATION OF IDEA Portable 3-in-1 steam iron STEAM IRON Steam iron is used to remove wrinkles and creases of the clothes. There are different types of steam irons, such as handheld steam iron, water tank steam iron, and simple best steam iron. Steam iron is preferable than dry iron or any other electric iron.As it has many features like steam key that convert dry iron into steam iron and vice versa. For example, the LED light which is normally on every iron indicates iron whether it is ready to work or not. A rotating knob is used to adjust the heat setting and water tank. Most steam iron models have a feature that allows you to use it for vertical steaming as well, so you do not need to buy two separate appliances and will save the cost. The foremost principle applied in the steam iron is heat, to be specific, thermodynamic; a type of energy transfer from warmer substance to the colder one. Steam iron works on the principle of conversion of electrical energy into heat energy, and then this heat energy is used for the ironing purpose. Electric current passes through the coil or other heating material that is present in the iron. Coil will become hot, and it transfers all its heat to the iron’s bottom. Some of the steam iron has a water tank in which when water is added it is then converted into steam, which is used to iron clothes. When the coil in the iron gets heated, it’s become hot. When you add water in the tank, it will fall drop by drop on the coil, and steam is produced, which then exits from the iron’s steam vents and de-wrinkles clothes. There is a feature of a steam mist that is used to moisten clothes for deep ironing. For this process, iron used that tank water and sprayed it on the cloth during the ironing process. You do not need to spray water separately because your steam iron does it by itself. Basically, fabric made up of polymer which is a long strand of molecules. A steam iron dampens the fabric and loosens the hydrogen bond. When heat is applied on it, the bonds between polymers will become weak and flexible and also cause the water to evaporate and the hydrogen bonds to reconnect. The pressure from iron flattens the fabric (align the molecules) when it is in a pliable state and removes the wrinkles. When the fabric cools back, the molecules in the fabric become strong again but in a flattened (unwrinkled) position. 6

VACUUM (LINT REMOVER) The purpose of the vacuum is included in this 3-in-1 steam iron is to remove the dust off the clothes. Due to our tropical climate which creates undesirable dust, it makes our clothes easily trap the dust. This problem leads us to promote an alternative way by including vacuum in the 3-in-1 steam iron. Theoretically, vacuum works because of Bernoulli’s Principle, which states that as the speed of air increases, the pressure decreases. Air will always flow from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area in order to balance out the pressure. The electric motor is placed in the body of iron as it is a main thing of a vacuum. To create a pressure state, the motor spins a fan to create different air pressure inside and outside of the iron’s body. When the fan is spin, the air velocity inside is higher than outside. Hence, the air pressure inside of the iron will become low which forces the higher air pressure at the outside to come inside of the iron and dust to come inside at the specific site of the iron body where all dust and dirt are trapped. So, the dust will be sucked and removed from the clothes. The pressure inside of the iron’s body has to be constantly being kept lower than the outside in order for the suction to continuously occur. When the site of dirt and dust trapped is full, the air slows down, increasing in pressure. This lowers the suction power of the vacuum, which will reduce the efficiency of the vacuum to suck the air and dust.

POWERBANK This 3-in-1 steam iron is added with another multipurpose feature which is a power bank. A power bank is a portable charger designed to recharge the electronic devices when we're on the move. Ranging in size from slim, pocket-sized devices up to larger, higher-capacity power banks, they can be used to charge smartphones, tablets etc. Power banks consist of a special battery in a special case with a special circuit to control power flow. They allow you to store electrical energy (deposit it in the bank) and then later use it to charge up a mobile device. When a device is connected to the power bank, the power bank will supply and provide current or electrical energy to that device to raise the battery’s life. Power banks have become increasingly popular as the battery life of our phones, tablets and portable media players is outstripped by the amount of time we spend using them each day. By keeping a battery backup close by, we don’t need to worry much about our phone’s battery life. 7

The Power Banks we're talking about are good for almost any USB-charged devices such as cameras, GoPros, portable speakers, GPS systems, MP3 players, smartphones and even some tablets can be charged from a Power Bank. Practically anything that charges from USB at home can be charged from a power bank. We just have to remember to keep our power bank charged too.

4.4 TARGET MARKETING Internship or hostelite students Students who are in early study or live in hostels should be the one that need this kind of product as it can be easily used and also comfortable to carry around. Even Though this product may cost a lot among the students but it is worth enough for all-in-one convenience. This product also will be promoted by launching a competition for all students to join and provide some free gifts for the winners in the contest provided. There are also some promotions or discounts for students who have problems with the cost as we can do an event or exhibition that gives students a price product in the middle of public holidays or festival day. 11

Traveller People who love to travel overseas have some problem to prepare a nice outfit or need a battery backup while visiting other countries. This 3-in-1 portable iron can help travellers to get a nice and cool outfit without ugly wrinkles and provide them a digital battery backup. Mobile phones such as Androids and IOS need extra batteries for a long time. This product may give advantages for the travel lovers even though it costs them a lot. This product also can be promoted or advertised by collaborating with travel companies around the world. This will make people know about this useful product and also can get an extra discount when they buy this 3-in-1 portable iron along with the travel commodities and tickets. 5.0 BENEFITS AND FUTURE RECOMMENDATION OF PRODUCT Benefits The 3-in-1 steam portable steam iron is convenient to be used by many people as it is very lightweight and easy to carry around in the luggage. The compact design of the 3-in-1 steam portable steam iron enables the iron to not take up so much space in the bag or luggage of the owner. The multifunctional 3-in-1 steam portable steam iron allows a person to not bring so much electrical appliances along with them during travelling or living in the dormitory where the space is limited. The portable steam iron can become an iron, a vacuum to suck and get rid of lint and become a power bank. These functions would make it easy for the owner to switch to either these functions according to their needs in a split second. The parts of the 3-in-1 steam portable steam iron can be switched and taken off according to what the owner would like to use at that moment. If the buyer would like to suck the lint off their clothing, the vacuum head can be attached to the body of the iron so that it can suck the lint off. Another function that can be used is that it can become a power bank. The USB charger of the device that needs to be charged can be plugged into the body of the steam iron and charge the device.

Recommendations While the product that we have created has many benefits and is very much convenient for users, there are many improvements to be given to the 3-in-1 portable iron. First off, the portable iron has to be recharged after each use. The usage time is only 20 minutes. This would be an inconvenience to the users if they have a large load of clothing to be ironed out. Other than for ironing, the portable steam iron can be used as a power bank to charge any device owned by the user. Devices like, a mobile phone, tablet or even an iWatch. When travelling the device at hand may run out of battery so having this steam iron that can act as a power bank would bring utmost convenience to the people who bought our products. The suggestion here would be for the iron to have a larger battery capacity so that it can last longer for the convenience of the user. Next, a foldable portable iron is an improvement from the current product. The portable iron may be light and easy to carry around but it is bulky and the rigid shape makes it hard to be stored in the luggage. This issue might cause some damages on the iron which would then shorten its life expectancy. A foldable iron would ease the problem, making it easier to store it in the luggage and reduce any possible damages that could be done on the portable iron. For the convenience of our users, a charging dock for the portable iron would be much easier rather than using a normal cable. The iron would just have to be connected to the micro USB by placing it on the dock. Using a normal cable would take a longer time as it would be hard for the user to find the charging hole and properly insert the USB in. Third, as a company that cares about the welfare of our customers, an alarm is recommended to be implemented into the device to avoid overheating of the 3-in-1 portable steam iron. When the iron reaches an unadvisable heat to iron clothing that can cause damage on it, a beeping sound will be emitted by the product. While protecting the fabric of our customers', the alarm would also inform the user that they should avoid touching the metal plate, which is also the ironing head, as it can cause them serious burns. Lastly, the silicone case provided is supposed to be used to cover the metal plate that is used to straighten the clothes. Considering that the portable steam iron can also be used as a power bank, the silicon cover can help the user to remove the ironing head. The possible leftover heat on the ironing head can cause burns and the silicon cover can prevent that in case the user wants to use it to charge their device or even vacuum up lint from their clothes. 13
