Description

Jada Garrison College Writing 1 Jamie Parmelee 6 December 2017 Revision Process of Essay #2 In my revision, I started to evaluate my essay at the sentence level, on to paragraph level, and so on. As I picked apart my writing I looked to better my choice in the words I used, restructure sentences to better the flow of the text, and confirm that each paragraph had a meaning and related to the main topic of the essay. I feel revisions are great way to teach students that they can always better their writing. After some constructive criticism from peers and/or the instructor to look for things that can better the writing that the student may have missed. In my writing, specifically I choose to reevaluate the purpose of my writing. I knew the point I wanted to make, I just didn’t quite know how to get my point across in a way that engaged the readers. I also focused on altering my writing to appeal to readers of all standpoints concerning the topic of the essay. I wrote the essay with a slight lean towards my opinion on the topic, but balanced it out tone that would not deter any reader from taking a look at my work. After taking a second look at my writing I found way to strengthen the purpose of my writing while keeping my intended audience engaged throughout the text. My purpose in writing this essay was to share information about the #YesAllWomen Twitter hashtag movement. I included information of how the movement first came about and some of the values they hold. Though I shared some personal opinions, I kept in mind that this essay was not about what I felt about the topic. But it was about spreading the word on this crisis

and proposing a solution to it. To balance out writing I included the #NotAllMen hashtag movement, the opposing to #YesAllWomen. When determining the audience of my writing I kept in mind that not everybody shares the same viewpoint on the subject I chose to write about. I included informative facts and some personal opinion. For the personal points, I chose to insert tweets to use as a conversation starter. I felt the reader could use the tweets to reflect on and in hopes they would gain interest in the movement and joint the Twitter community. I did not write this essay in hopes to sway the readers personal opinion on the topic. I wrote this in hopes the reader had an open mind and realized what a problem there is. To ask for support in resolving these inequalities, in hopes of demolishing the double standards and stereotypes. Over the course of the semester I feel I have grown in terms of my writing abilities. I had the ability to express some of my own views and beliefs in my writing, unlike in high school where we wrote mostly book reports. I like the style of teaching that this class offered. This class left a room for some leeway when it came to writing, even when given a prompt. I feel this is what played the biggest part in my growth. It forced me to fully understand the purpose to what I was writing and find the best ways to appeal to what audience I was writing to. Overall, I am pleased with the work I have accomplished as a young writer....
