What do you feel about the impact of smartphones on our lives and social interactions?

In the past twenty years the smartphones have come to be a very important part of our daily. Nowadays smartphones are everywhere, they are part of us, in the office when we are working and they are very present on our social lives too, Spain with 81% of smartphones is the country of Europe which has the most rating (Spain leader in the use of smartphones, 2015), this industry moves a lot of money around the world since the arrival of the first smartphone in 1992 called “IBM Simon” (What was the first smartphone?, 2015). In this essay I will argue why in my opinion the smartphones are important in our lives and social relationships. Firstly, from my point of view, to have a smartphone is essential in our daily. Nowadays is very important to be in contact with the people you know as your family or the closest friends, the parents can connect with their sons instantly in case of emergency or we can talk with our class mates about the homework we have to do, asking question and resolving problems where we have more doubts. Nevertheless, there are those who think the contrary, they think that the parents are overprotecting their sons and we do not have to be in contact all the time with our friends because they need personal space. For those people who think in that way I will say them my point of view, the world has change and now to be in contact with friends the most common way is by texting them, due to is free and fast. Secondly, I personally believe that smartphones are such a good way to find out information on internet. Thanks to internet mobile network we can have all the information in our hands, we can search for the latest news or even know the weather in a few minutes and with some apps the searching time is even less and you can do this in any place of the world. However, there are people who prefer to search the information on an encyclopedia or look for it in books, newspapers or contrasted magazines because they trust in the information which has been printed by important brand or writer. Personally speaking, I prefer the online media because you do not have to go to a library or buy the newspaper every day to know what happened in the world and there are free encyclopedias on internet. Some of the most important writers for newspaper think that printed papers will disappear in a future, Nick Bilton (Technologist for The Times) declared: “Paper is dying” (Decline of newspapers, 2015).

Another point is the using of apps for our social interactions which in my view I think this is the most important part of the smartphones. These kinds of applications are very useful to us because they allow us to share our photos, homework, thoughts, ideas and so on. There are detractors who say that is not very secure to upload photos on the social networks because somebody can use them to damage you and they say that they do not want to know about others people life and they prefer to call someone instead of texting. Speaking personally, I think that you have to be carefully of what you upload but today in the social networks you can choose who can watch you photos and your profile as in Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. If we talk about connecting with friends I prefer to text them instead of call them using applications like Whatsapp, which is one of the most downloaded apps in the world with more than one billion downloads (List of the most downloaded Android applications, 2015). Finally, another use that in my view is really important in smartphones is buying by internet wherever you are. I would argue that this is one of the most interesting things of an intelligent mobile phone, thanks to internet in our mobile phone we can buy everything and even buy something that is very far from us and bring it to our home or office just with two or three pushes in the touch screen and in my opinion this is very useful to purchase my boarding pass and I do not have to printed. There are people that do not like to buy online with their phones because they do not feel safe, because they believe that they are going to be scammed. In my opinion you have to be alert when you are buying on internet but if you know the place where you usually buy, then there is not problem, each day there are more shopper that prefers the online purchases, according to a study by United Parcel Service, 50% of owners of smartphones use their mobiles for buying online (Morris, 2013). To conclude, in this essay I have argued which is the impact of the smartphones in our society, how with our smartphones we are in contact with our family and friends with the use of texting apps and social networks. Besides I have discussed the important of internet mobile network which provide us all the information that we are looking for in just a few seconds and it allows us to make purchases online. As a result of this essay I think that the impact of the smartphones is increasing because we use the smartphones for almost everything.
