Description

Euthanasia: Death on Demand “Death with dignity.” Dying to a dignified death is better than to die by suffering, that is what almost people believe. They take credit that everyone is tied to an endless road of suffering with one-way end—death. And to justify their end, they take to address the use of euthanasia, especially when their suffering is knotted to an incurable and painful terminal illnesses. Euthanasia came from a Greek word which means “good death”. Practiced by countless countries around the world, it highly denotes to a big demand in death practices. It is also called as physician-assisted suicide and often considered as mercy killing. Private institutions are now given the consent to perform such act to their patients, voluntarily or involuntarily. In which by means, the patients are being euthanized with or without their confirmation and the decision is made by another appropriate person on behalf of the patient. Being euthanized involuntarily, it can now be designated as murder for it has been performed against the patients will. Somehow, it is a legal act and murder can be overlooked as a proper method for ending a miserable life of someone. Though it was not his or her intention to die yet. Every kind of tea has its good and bad sides, that is how the world works for everyone. Euthanasia got its both good and bad sides in either way you look at it. Arguments whether to agree or to go against it are served for everyone. Churches and other institutions argued for its existence in the field. And since this practice is bound on taking lives, religious teachings never agreed to this actuality. Though it has its positive intention, many argues that it still violates many aspects in our society. Mostly, the arguments are being aided by humanitarian and religious groups to wipe away this growing controversial issue about taking lives. Going on to a little history of euthanasia back in times of Ancient Greece and Rome, it was believed that euthanasia is an already known practice. Not until a Greek physician, Hippocrates, ended the physician’s dual role of saving and ending lives. He separated the cure and kill function of a physician by creating the original Hippocratic Oath. It was clearly stated in the oath that, “To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death”, which means that it is against to every physician to perform death on his patient, even it was requested out of him. This oath is practiced by many nowadays. But isn’t it betraying the oath if a professional performed an act of euthanasia? It should be noted that doctors and hospitals exists to save lives, and that they should end the suffering and not the sufferer itself. Taken into account that performing euthanasia has its advantages. As how it is simply defined, it ends the patients suffering and to let him die without pain. It is also regarded as dignified death, because the sickness didn’t kill him. And for the other side, it also decreases the medical cost and financial problems of the grieving family and to relieve their burden. But advantages can be accommodated as an expensive trail, right? It may ease up everything in others perception but then also terminate the rights of one person. Please do remember that everyone has the right to live, as what is stated in the Human Rights. No one has the right to make judgement on the value of another person’s life. No one is capable whether to kill the patient, even his assisting physician. As what is stated above, doctors have signed their Hippocratic Oath and it unjustly for them to euthanize their patients. New medicines could become available to cure terminal and/or incurable illnesses. Lots may say that waiting with their lives on stake is such a waste but the risk is always there. The society is working with everything to supply the needs of their people—especially those who are fighting for their lives in hospital beds and oxygen tanks. We must take into understanding that everything that happens in our lives are there for a reason. May it be this family problem, financial instability or that illness, it was put there for a reason and the product of that reason should account to a positive outcome. Take note of that. Agony, suffering and pain has always been a part of everyone’s journey. These emotion plays such a huge role in everybody’s choices in their everyday lives. It takes a lot of courage to stand tall and fight for someone’s life. Ending lives was never a choice,...
