Evaluate the positive and negative effects of Affirmative Action in the United States. Target current issues, trends, and demographics.

President Kennedy, in 1961, initiated Affirmative Action. Based on race and sex were used in hiring, promotion and college admissions. It was the most direct way to even the field of economic opportunity. In 1965, President Johnson expanded that opportunity to include government jobs. Back then, this opened the doors to multiple races and genders to advance. This pleased many back then, yet as we come into the 21st century, some feel they have been slighted. Opportunity should be open to all, but to place race or sex ahead of one’s ability is reverse discrimination (Henslin, 2017 p.292) I have seen how elite colleges will use Affirmative Action to fill a quota of certain students to be able to receive government funding, only to have White students complain they were passed over for someone of inferior grades. Today, women hold top positions in business, media and fashion. Many technology companies are own by various minorities, yet some still feel they were denied of the prize....
