NRSG 100 Fundamentals of Nursing Exam Blueprint and Preparation information Exam #3 General Blueprint of the Exam There will be 50 questions on this exam based on the course content learning objectives listed in the NRSG 100 Course Unit Objectives handout which is posted under modules in IvyLearn. Approximately 25 from each chapter. The following content areas will be addressed from your textbook: Chapter 39: Fluids, Electrolyte, and Acid-base Balance Functions of water; principles of osmosis, diffusion, active transport, and filtration; fluid homeostasis; health history questions about fluid balance; locations and functions of body fluids, including the factors that affect variations in fluid compartments; define terms dealing with fluid balance (e.g., ascites, edema, hypovolemia, etc.); what is included when measuring fluid output; who is at risk for fluid imbalances; signs of hypovolemia and hypervolemia; daily fluid intake and loss for an adult; best assessment practices for determining a client’s fluid status; what it means to “restrict” fluids and “force” fluids and describe comfort measures for each.

Chapter 35: Nutrition Six classes of nutrients, explaining the significance of each and identifying when the need for nutrients stabilizing during the lifespan; fat vs. water soluble vitamins and their sources; vitamin deficiencies (e.g., anemia, bleeding, scurvy, etc.) nutrition recommendations of MyPlate.gov.; calculate body mass index and describe its significance; variables that affect overall nutrition; obesity and its risk factors; significance waist circumference; define terms associated with nutrition (e.g., aphasia, dysphagia, anorexia, etc.); importance of fiber in the diet; nursing interventions to stimulate a person’s appetite; ways to maintain dignity of clients who need to be fed; ideal body weight and how is it determined; various diets (e.g., pureed diets, clear liquids, NPO, lactose-restricted, full liquid, mechanical soft, low carbohydrate, etc.) and identify any supplements or nutritional concerns that may arise regarding these types of diets; risk factors for poor nutritional status; nursing interventions to help people achieve their nutritional goals; nursing assessments and interventions to safely deliver enteral nutrition.

There are five “select all that apply” questions and 5 math type questions. Please refer to page 1201, Table 35-2, page 1204, Table 35-3, and page 1206, Table 35-4 for information on nutrients, sources, functions, deficiencies/excesses. So I want to be sure we understand each other…this is not all inclusive. I have tried to guide your studying; however there are many other things that we talked about in class that could also be included on this exam. Don’t forget to review the PowerPoints.
