EXAM PAPER

SECTION A - (COMPULSORY QUESTION)

Case study: Fabio Rosa – Bridging the Electricity Divide in Brazil, ECCH, Ref: 810-013-1 Rosa had been working since the year 1983 towards rural electrification in Brazil. According to him, as of November 2006, there were around 25 million people in Brazil who lacked access to electricity. Rosa realised that access to electricity would provide many ways to these people to increase their income levels. However, his attempts to find solutions that would allow them access to electricity met with several obstacles. Rosa started off working as part of the government to bring electricity to the rural areas in Brazil. He teamed up with several people like politicians and academicians who had helped him in overcoming some of the obstacles that lay in the way of achieving rural electrification. Rosa was keen on bringing about a significant positive difference in low-income families living in the rural areas of the country. (as extracted from pp. 2 of the case study)
