The article that will be reviewed is titled “The Practice of Effective Classroom Management in COVID-19 Time”. This article was written by Zahra Khusnul Lathifah which act as the corresponding author, Fachri Helmanto, and Novi Maryani. The article was published in International Journal of Advanced Science and Technology in year 2020. The article was prepared for purpose to find out on what extent the practice of online classroom management in pandemic coronavirus time at Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS) in Banten, Indonesia. In conducting the studies, in this article the author used analytical research as a research method to make a critical assessment on how teachers in Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS) managing the class when remoting online class during the pandemic Covid-19 time. The author's analytical research process in this article includes document analysis and interviews with teachers and students at Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS). In addition, WhatsApp messenger is used by the author as the data collection tools. Apart from that, in this article the author discusses 5 aspect of effective classroom management which are the design, rules or routines, relationship, motivation, and disciplines to determine the effectiveness of classroom management by teachers in Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS) when remote online learning. The authors claims that the result of the studies shows 4 out of 5 of the effective classroom management criteria are practiced by the teacher in Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS) with the extra help form parents when conducting online learning which are the rules or routines, relationship, engagement and motivation, and disciplines. In the final section of this article, the author offers 15 suggestions for improving the teaching process in Covid-19 time and recommends replicating this paper to researchers who want to conduct research in areas with no electricity and no internet coverage. This is the overall point of this article. In writing this article, the author demonstrated the article's strength, which can be emulated by other authors or researchers. First of all, the author presenting the finding and result in well-organize manner. The author describes the findings of the studies in detail, one by one, in relation to the variables that the author wanted to measure in this article. The author explains each of the four aspects of the effective classroom management criteria used by teachers at Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS) in detail, not only in sentences but also in pictures. By presenting the findings in both sentence and picture form, the readers can get a sense of how the

2

criteria were applied in the author's research. For example, in the aspect rules and regulations, the author presents the discovery in two different images that show how the teacher provides rules for lower and upper grades. This clearly helps me, as the reader, understand the findings of the author's studies. Second, the words used, and the sentence structure of this article are simple and easy to understand. The many of the words used by the author in writing this article are simple words, and when I read the sentences, I discovered that the words and sentences are not difficult to understand. Only a few difficult words are used by the author, where the meaning may be difficult to interpret in relation to the author’s study and may lead to misinterpretation of the word's meaning by the reader. For example, in the sentence "The school promotes also the localbased lesson, which is reading the Quran" the term "local-based lesson" is a bit confusing and may lead to misinterpretation if the person does not have additional knowledge about the term. I discovered that the author uses only two or three difficult words in this article, such as "synchronously" and "little intermezzo," and the rest is a simple word and a simple sentence structure. Following that, this article made use of references from the most recent resources. The author used the most recent article or journal as supporting evidence and references in preparing this article, which was published in 2020. Only 9 of the 35 references are not from articles or journals published in 2020. This is good because this article was prepared in the year 2020, so using resources from the same year is preferable because they can help to relate with each other as the author's topic in this article is a current issue that is happening all over the world. The author did a good job in preparing latest references for this article. Another point of strength is the well-structured format where this article was written. The author wrote this article in the proper format, with an organized manner, even in a set pattern from abstract to references. In this article, the authors provide easy-to-follow sequences from the introduction to the research methodology, from the result to the discussion, and from the conclusion to the references. The author discusses each of the elements in the article with a good numbering system, which makes it easier for the reader to read and follow the sequences from one element to the next. In the result and discussion section, for example, the author provides a good numbering system for the four aspects of effective classroom management practiced by the 3

teacher at Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS). The findings of the four aspects of effective classroom management were well discussed. Despite its strengths, there are some flaws which the author could perhaps avoid when writing this article. First above all, the authors fail to provide a clear justification for the data analysis process. The author describes the data collection procedure but not the data analysis procedure. The data collection process is only described in general terms, without any specifics on the procedures used to interpret the data. This may cause viewers to have doubts about the accuracy of the study's data results and findings. As a proof, for example in methodology section, the author said “The data, then, are organized and analyzed for generating a conclusion. Organizing the data followed the criteria for effective classroom management.” As a reader of this article, I was pretty suspicious of this statement and I am still wondering how the authors interpreted the data he gets from the teacher and vice principal at Mutiara Harapan Islamic School (MHIS). Next, the author did a poor job in interpreting the result of the finding in this article. This is because, after reading the results and discussion section, I discovered that the author did not provide a closing statement for each of the four aspects of the effective classroom management criteria used by the teachers at that school. The author went into detail about how the school applied these criteria, but not about the final statement in interpreting the results. When this occurs, it appears that something is missing in the interpretation process. The author should make a closing statement that demonstrates how the results answer the paper's research question. Furthermore, when the author interprets the result, there is no evidence from other resources to back up the interpretation. In fact, the author includes many references in the references section, but in the result interpretation, the author does not discuss the result in relation to the previous finding. It should be related to previous findings so that the reader of this article understands what the supporting evidence for this article is. In addition to that, rather than explaining the significance of the findings, the author explains the 15 suggestions that can be considered for better teaching in online classrooms, which appear to be unrelated to the findings of the studies in this article. . The author should elaborate more on the significance of the findings because not every reader will understand the interpretation of data as easily as the author because the viewers are not in the same field as the author. The interpretations also fall 4

short in terms of providing both the research question and the answer to that research question based on the findings of the studies in this article. Overall, after reading and viewing the entire article, I found that the author needs to make some adjustments to improve the article. First, rather than just provide a methodology section in this article, the author can divide the methodology section into two sub-sections: one on the research design and approach, and the other on the data and method of the studies. This is for purposed to make clear on the methods used as well as the design of the studies conducted by the author in this article. This is because, according to Tetzner (2020) a methodology should provide a rationale for the research methods and explain why the research design and individual procedures are appropriate for investigating the problem, answering the research questions, or testing the hypotheses. By dividing the methodology section into these two sections, it will easier for the novice researcher to detect the research approach, research design as well the method and data procedure of the study when reviewing this article. According to Expert Journal (2017), the description of the methods used should include enough details so that the study can be replicated or at least reinforced in a similar scenario or framework by other researchers. Thus, in providing a more comprehensive description of the research design, research approach, instrument used, and method of collecting and analyzing data for this article, the author should divide it into subsections rather than summarize it in a single section titled "methodology." Second, in the introduction section of this article, the author should provide a clear statement of the research question. Reyes (2017) claims that when writing a journal article, the research question must be particular, clear, and well integrated. The author writes up the research question in the form of a research objective in this article. However, as a novice researcher, when I read this article, I assume that this is the study's purpose rather than the research question. This leads me to wonder what the research question for this paper is. As found by Khoo (2006) in his studies, he claims that in the introduction section, the research question and the research objective and rationale of the study should state clearly. Thus, in relation to Khoo's claims, I propose that the author provide a clear statement of both the research objective and research question in this article.

5

Last but not least, the author should make some changes to the "4.Conclusion" section. Instead of providing general conclusion of this entire article, the authors should acknowledge the limitations of this study and suggest next steps for future researchers. This is because, according to Reyes (2017), when writing the conclusion, it should address three things: one, the summarization of the paper including the main findings, second, the limitations of the paper, and third, possible steps for future research that builds on what was done in the paper. In this article, the author writes up the conclusion by simply generalizing making a conclusion related to the topic but does not include the limitations and possible steps to improve the limitations. To make this article have a meaningful conclusion for the reader, I recommend that the author make some changes in accordance with Reyes' claims. As a conclusion, I believe the author did an excellent job in preparing this extremely useful article. This article is very useful and can be used as a reference for other researchers who want to conduct research on classroom management while teaching online. Although there are some deficiencies and weaknesses in this article, I believe that the author can improve it by making some changes.
