INTRODUCTION The objective of this experiment is to determine the exact molarity of a hydrochloric acid solution by using the titration method. This experiment is started by preparing an amount of solid sodium carbonate Na2CO3 to be dissolving in fixed volume of water to make a solution in order to know the exact concentration so it can be standardize with dilute hydrocloric acid HCI. The reaction between HCI and Na2CO3 is as follow: 2 HCI + Na2CO3 → 2 NaCI + H2O + CO2

PROCEDURE The burette is cleaned and rinsed with distilled water. The air bubbles from the jet of the burette is removed by opening the tap to allow the distilled water going through.Then the burette is hung up to the retort stand. The initial reading is measured and recorded.

Anhydrous 1.3304g of Na2CO3 is weighed with weighing paper by using analytical balance. The Na2CO3 is transferred into the 100mL beaker and dissolved by 50mL of water. The Na2CO3 solution is now transferred into 250mL volumetric flask and distilled water is added until the calibration mark,with the stopper on top,the solution is shaked upside down.

2.2mL of concentrated HCI is dissolved in a 250mL beaker containing of 250mL distilled water to make a dilute acid.

The burette is filled by dilute HCI. The pipette of 25mL is used to transfer Na2CO3 into clonical flask. With 3 drops of methyl orange indicator,the titration is started and the clonical flask was swirl frequently until the solution turns red. The final reading is observed and recorded. This experiment is repeated for three times and the data is collected and recorded.

QUESTION The molarity of HCL solution: 2 HCI + Na2CO3 → 2 NaCI + H2O + CO2 Mole of Na2CO3: 1.3304/105.9888 : 0.013 mol 1mol Na2CO3 – 2mol HCI o.o13mol

- 0.013(2)mol - 0.026mol

Molarity of HCL: 0.026mol/0.0206L : 1.3mol/L

DISCUSSION We begin this experiment by clean all the apparatus. The experiment start smoothly with the method that we followed. There is acid that solution that we waste because of we do not tight the stopper at burette tight enough. The acid solution in burette keep coming out. The first titration is 21.50mL, 20.00mL and 20.30mL. All the result we got is almost the same. We had conclude that we do not make any mistake because of the final result we got is not far from the titration 2 and titration 3.

CONCLUSION From this experiment, we can conclude that we can determine the exact molarity of a hydrochloric acid solution by using the titration method. This can be proof by our own result of this experiment.
