Description

My definition of family is a household with two adults that love and care for each other, as well as equally financially supporting one another sharing similar beliefs and values. This could consist of man and woman or two of the same sex as well as sharing children together in the household. Family is also just the personal commitment to a person, whether that’s a brother and sister or two people who live together for a significant amount of time. I think if there was any bias it would be towards the traditional family style of a man and woman who are married and live together in a house with children, this is only because this is the family style my family. Some common bias people may have been that a family where the woman stays home and takes care of the children while the man is the bread winner and comes home and does the more “manly” housekeeping. Having Bias towards certain family types in your personal practice could cause you to not be able to help your patient in the best way possible. By not having an open mind to everyone’s family types people tend to not treat others with respect, protect confidentiality, or practice with competence. I think this is because without respect people tend to forget about how they should treat others even when the don’t live the life you think is the right way to do family. Discrimination against others race, gender, religion, or any other specific qualities a family may have will limit your practice to a low point where it will never be successful. This is because if you can only see the traditional family then your bias will overlook the many vast categories in the world and breaks the code of ethics in many ways....
