Assignment #3...

Description

Fast Fix Final Weight: 15% Peer-Review Deadline posted to eClass: Monday, February 8th, 11:30am (Just the Fast Fix Guide, NOT the “Extra Step”) Final Submission Deadline: Wednesday, February 10th, 11:59pm to eClass Submission Instructions for eClass: Word Doc with hyperlink to your Guide + “Extra Steps” – see below. The purpose of this assignment is to bring your work on the iFixit Guide to completion, both as a Guide but also reflecting on the process that got you there. As with earlier stages, applying and following the peer review process that iFixit and your fellow students offer is the most important advice that I can give. This assignment has two stages/deadlines:

Draft for Peer Review: Monday, February 8th, by 11:30am Finalize and post the link to your Guide to the Submission option provided under the February 8th heading. You will be given two Guides to Peer-Review, and you are responsible for PeerReviewing those by Tuesday, February 9th by 11:30am and emailing me the Peer-Reviews at [email protected]. The completed Peer-Reviews will then be sent to you.

Final to eClass – Including Extra Steps: Wednesday, February 10th, by 11:59pm The feedback you’ve gotten from iFixit and your peers up until this point should be incorporated into your final submission. You should complete the Fast Fix Checklist before handing in your final to iFixit. You access that here: https://edu.ifixit.com/fast-fix-checklist. Your final submission requires sending a Word document with a hyperlink to your Final Guide. Make sure you take in the feedback from iFixit and your class colleagues. However, there are two other steps that are required in addition to the Guide. 1) Firstly, in approximately 300 words, explain how and why your text designed for your intended audience. What techniques are involved in writing for such an audience, and how have you tried to present your photos and all your written work to achieve that goal? It would be useful to refer to anything relevant that we’ve gone over during Class and also the iFixit Right to Repair section found here to develop your response: https://www.ifixit.com/Right-to-Repair

2) Secondly, in approximately 300 words, explain how the feedback that you’ve received along the way has helped you develop your work, and what you found challenging or difficult throughout the process. Good writing involves many aspects: drafting, modelling, revising and more. Has the work on this project helped you think differently about how you regard technical writing? What questions might you start out with now in thinking through a project of this type, or even one altogether? How might understanding genre help you in this regard?

Requirements & Specifications Length: 600 words (double spaced – please list your exact word count!) Title Page: No need. Simply ensure that your name and a title are at the top of the first page of your work. Headings: Yes, if they’re helpful. Referencing: Yes. You’ll have to cite, and please use MLA-style referencing. You MUST cite! Required Sources: Anything that we’ve examined thus far will be useful to include! Multimodal elements: Feel free to embed images and/or hyperlinks. Ensure that they work, that they’re relevant, appropriate, integrated effectively, and attributed. Some questions you might have: Q: Can I use 1st person (i.e. “I” or “Me” etc.)? A: Absolutely, but just remember that you need to follow the genre for professional academic submissions, and therefore you are required to think about and clearly articulate everything in a genre appropriate way. Q: Can I do this in point form? A: Absolutely not. While this assignment does not require you to have an introduction or a thesis statement, your work must be written in full sentences and, if necessary, paragraphs. Q: How do I do well on this assignment? A: My most important recommendation is that you are sincerely considerate of what went into the project thus far, especially including the feedback on the assignments from the folks at iFixit, as well as the work we did in Class remotely. Other Questions? Please get in touch! I’m here to help through the assignment process. All questions are valid!...
