FETAL PIG DISSECTION GUIDELINES FOR VIRTUAL DISSECTION THE PROGRAM FROGUTS MAYBE USED FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE DOING ONLY THE ONLINE DISSECTION. THE DISSECTION SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR COMPUTER DISSECTION a) General lab safety must be strictly followed, hair tied back, safety goggles must be worn and surgical gloves must be worn if you are touching the specimen. b) You will need a scissor, probe, forceps, scalpel and a dissecting tray. c) Get a specimen from your teacher, rinse it off at your sink, place it on your tray and begin your observations. d) Go to the following website: Virtual Pig Dissection: http://www.whitman.edu/biology/vpd/main.html OR COMPUTER PROGRAMS: FROGUTS, CLICK ON FETAL PIG DISSECTION AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. Become familiar with the website/PROGRAM and then begin by doing the following components: On the left side of the screen click and do a) Anatomical References OR INITIAL OBSERVATIONS IF USING FROGUTS, b) Sexing Your Pig, c) Excretory System, d) Nervous System e) ONE of either Digestive, Circulatory or Reproductive System. After choosing your systems, do them in the order that they are presented on the website. You must do the systems that were studied in the Homeostasis Unit. Follow the on-screen instructions, make observations as required and do the associated follow up quiz. Organize your time so that you can complete the dissection within a 2-3 period time span.
