1. Abstract

Rouse Hill Water Recycling Plant is a wastewater treatment and water recovery plant. According to the requests, it is able to provide multifarious water treatments such as micro-filtration process and ozonisation. In 1984, the northwest region of Sydney (‘Hills’ area such as Castle Hills & Baulkham Hills) was determined as a potential development area due to the ever-increasing population. In 1989, the development area of Ross Hills was designated as the first regional department released by the Sydney area 19, has the population of approximately 270,000. In the Parklea area, Rouse Hill and Kellyville that were located at the eastern part of the development area were designated as 1 or more commonly as Rouse Hill project area (Sydney Water, 1995). In 1991, this federal agency provided up to 35,000 workforces. A private consortium provides convenience, drainage and sewage services for the development of water in the region through credit financing (Rouse Hill Infrastructure Consortium - RHIC). After all constructions were completed, Sydney Water took charge in the ownership and operation of the infrastructure. They have designed a double net house reusing scheme, and also recycled water guide for urban and residential. In order to ensure the requirements, considering the health issue of the public environment, size of the requirements, quality supervisions, treating processes, network design, pipeline requirements… and so on are required be rounded in the system.

2. Introduction

Micro-filtration is a water treatment method mainly for protozoa while ozonisation is mainly focus on viruses. This plant has e recirculated storage area. Each storage area connects drinking water to the standby reservoir as service continuity. It guarantees the risk control of the plant since established in 2000. The initial circulating water plant only used an additional chlorination step to existing sewage treatment plant (STP), and final alum metering 3 stage clarifier and filter process (Sydney Water). However, this treatment level was not able to ensure the requirement of clearance of pathogen in 1994; while in 2001, after months of hard work done by the engineers, an ozonisation facility which is able to satisfy the requirements was finally developed. Nowadays, there are more than 12,000 hotels are receiving the reclaimed water.

3. Identification

In 2018, a design called Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) has been raise forward. It focus on improving the ability to discover, process and reuse urban environments, and also decrease the pollution in either streams and rivers in the meantime.

falls, the drops would either be absorbed by the earth/plants or evaporated to the atmosphere then return to the nature purely; while in urban area,

cement ground is not able to absorb rainwater which would form rainwater runoffs. The pollutants from city would just enter into those flows and follow the flows down to the sewers and then back into the nature but with so much pollutant in it. The closer to the water source, the better the WSUD would behave.

4. Evaluation 4.1Types of Maintenances Maintenance includes preventive maintenances, planned maintenance and reactive maintenances. They are method to prevent or stop from more damaging. Preventive maintenances are similar to planned maintenances. Preventive maintenances are maintenances that need to be done in schedule regularly such as motor lubrication, tightening nuts and bolts; while planned maintenances are like ensuring partial or complete replacement of the equipment before the expected failure occurs. This type of maintenance takes the considering of account the investment in equipment since eventually there is a functional deadline on the instrument before it completely not working. Reactive maintenance refers to the strategy that occurs after an unexpected failure, it is the method that could effectively repair the machine in time and to in case of unexpected needs.

4.2Environment Protection Protection of environment is a very important factor for Rouse Hill Water Recycling Plant. They have worked on building environmental plans, management, and implementation as their main purpose. They also aim at

minimizing the harmful factors in the natural and built environment. They provide basic and sustainable water service and are the leader of sustainable water industry. Every year, they have a team survey environmental phenomenon and would report the result of the taking actions in their environmental plan. And every month, the quality of water would be tested at the water filtration plant, sewage treatment plant and advanced water treatment plant. Each waste water management system has an environmental protection permit, including the NSW Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The license specific the performance standards they are required to ensure and the following tests they are required to do.

5. Conclusion

Sydney and the whole country’s population have been rapidly grown in these few years. Intelligent use of water becomes more and more important days by days. Waste water management plant like Rouse Hill has played an extremely important role in the society. And even Rouse Hill Water Recycling Plant has a huge scale, the amount of water they can handle per day is still very little compared to how much water would be used per day in the city. This field trip has mentioned me the importance of water again.
