Fine and Gross Motor Skills Developmental Checklist Age

Movement/Physical Development Milestones

Two months

o Can hold head up and begins to push up when lying on tummy o Makes smoother movements with arms and legs

Four months

o Holds head steady, unsupported o Pushes down on legs when feet are on a hard surface o May be able to roll over from tummy to back o Can hold a toy and shake it and swing at dangling toys o Brings hands to mouth o When lying on stomach, pushes up to elbows

Six months

o Rolls over in both directions (front to back, back to front) o Begins to sit without support o When standing, supports weight on legs and might bounce o Rocks back and forth, sometimes crawling backward before moving forward

Nine months

o Stands, holding on o Can get into sitting position o Sits without support o Pulls to stand o Crawls

One year

o Gets to a sitting position without help o Pulls up to stand, walks holding on to furniture (“cruising”) o May take a few steps without holding on o May stand alone

18 months

o Walks alone o May walk up steps and run o Pulls toys while walking o Can help undress herself o Drinks from a cup o Eats with a spoon

Two years

o Stands on tiptoe o Kicks a ball o Begins to run o Climbs onto and down from furniture without help o Walks up and down stairs holding on

o Throws ball overhand o Makes or copies straight lines and circles Three years

o Climbs well o Runs easily o Pedals a tricycle (3-wheel bike) o Walks up and down stairs, one foot on each step

Four years

o Hops and stands on one foot up to 2 seconds o Catches a bounced ball most of the time o Pours, cuts with supervision, and mashes own food

Five years

o Stands on one foot for 10 seconds or longer o Hops; may be able to skip o Can do a somersault o Uses a fork and spoon and sometimes a table knife o Can use the toilet on her own o Swings and climbs...
